Flight Crews: Are They Necessary Or Irresponsible?
Why is it important to debrief crews correctly? It is the first of many steps in helping keep flight crews safe. If a flight crew knows about any piece of equipment or person that is a potential threat to them while in flight, that information can help them be situationally aware of a future threat. If a crew is unaware of any potential threat then they will not know to continually look for such a threat. The knowledge that comes with information like potential threats helps pilots better assess the area they will be travelling in. If the crew is aware of a triple A near the objective they can then make a flight route that will take them around or away from that threat. That is why as intelligence analysts its our job to ask questions that will gather as much information as possible. So we can create an image of what the enemy is doing and how it can threaten our pilots lifes. It also allows us to asses what the enemy will potentially do in the future. The enemy is known to conduct lengthy operations to gather information for attacks in the future. Something that occurred months ago and seemed insignificant later could be the beginning signs of an even greater event. Lasing is an example of something that may seem insignificant but when coupled with multiple lasing events over a length of time, can potentially lead up to a bigger event that could cause a loss of equipment, asset, and life. ISIS has used lasing before to help them take down an aircraft at night or during low visibility and to keep track of an aircraft while it is flying. Sometimes to gather intelligence on flight routes or landing sites. So they can plan for a future attack on the aircraft.
