The first area I will discuss is close relationships. In the beginning of the film, we become acquainted with a woman named “Nicole” as she meets up with her apparent drug dealer. Right of the bat, it is very noticeable Nicole is struggling with withdrawals and needs a fix. The dealer knows Nicole has no money but knows of other ways for her to pay him back in the future, therefore he gives her the drugs and some advice. During their ascension into the sky, the ATC’s are a bit worried about the weather therefore they request a status update from the pilot. Whip tells the co-pilot they are “climbing”. The copilot then relays the message in complete detail to the ATC’s. This is known in our textbook as paraphrasing, or “restating the essence of a message in our own words” (IPC3 132).
