Does it make any sense to still “Focus on Britain” in contemporary times? Discuss the case for and against.
This essay will illustrate as to whether in todays’ modern society it still makes sense to focus on Britain alone. It will do this by discussing the cases for and against each point considering important factors such as globalisation, traditionalism and multiculturalism. The debate as to whether or not the idea to focus solely on Britain is wise is one that has caused much controversy and is a topic that has stirred up the opinions of many prolific figures, such as sociologists and Politian’s.
Many have argued that even in contemporary times it makes sense to focus on Britain, the main reason for this being that Britain is undeniably one of the most powerful and influential nations in the world. From the 16th century it is fair to say that Britain and the rest of the world have become progressively entwined. Britain’s influence on the world being not only immensely profound but very widespread, touching every continent and influencing many different matters from archaeology to government. Even to this day people look to Britain as a pioneering nation setting the way for the rest to follow. An event which played a major role in helping Britain to spread its influence and to become one of the most prolific nations was that of the British Empire. The British Empire lasted many centuries and held numerous colonies and dominions all across the world. The Empire has often been referred to as "the empire on which the sun never sets” because it spread so vast across the globe the sun was always shining on one of its many colonies or dominions. The vast empire caused British culture and influence to spread across the globe, even to this day numerous countries have strong British influence in their culture due to the likelihood of the actuality that the two nations are historically intertwined.
