Focus Student Reflection
Although both of my focus students were able to achieve the learning goal, a few of my students were not. My class average, after grading their worksheets, was between a 80% or 85%. For the students that did not grasp the concept, I would bring out a hundreds chart for them to use. These charts tend to help students because they are comfortable using them. I did not initially suggest using them because I do not want my students relying on them. During the gradual release, I would ask students to come back to the carpet if they are not ready to be on their own yet. With this small group we would work through a few more problems together, again having a student coming up for each step. This will allow them extra support and guidance needed to comprehend the learning goal. …show more content…
I will continue planning lessons and look at other student needs and start to think what I can do for them so that they too can achieve their goals. For example, there is another student in my class that is very similar to focus student number two and would benefit from staying in a small group setting for longer before going on to independent work. Now that I have proof that this modification has worked for focus student number two, I can now plan on adapting the lesson for this other student and see if it can help him as

Rosa Parks is an African American woman who helped pave the way for the civil rights movement. At the age of 43, Rosa Parks infamously denied her seat to a white person, despite being seated in the colored people section. She was then fined and arrested creating an uproar against the equality between white and colored people. On the day following Rosa Parks’ arrest Jo Ann robinson, a member of the Women's Political Council, issued a statement encouraging colored people to avoid taking the bus in order to demonstrate the vitality of the African Americans to the bus system. This then triggered a movement known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott from December 5, 1955 to December 20,1956.…

The next strategy to consider is to pace the lessons carefully. Teachers must be able to judge whether the students are grasping the content well enough to move on. Struggling students will need more time to grasp the new ideas and more time for practice. A third strategy is to build a routine of support. A routine will reinforce the concepts and skills the students need to master. The routine of support consist of four steps. The first step in the routine is that the teacher models. Step two is that the teacher models and the students respond. The third step is think-pair-share where students think on their own, then students work with a partner, and then discuss the problem as a class. Step four is to work independently. Strategy four is to include student involvement. Getting students involved will help them to strengthen their understandings. Students can collect their ideas and then discuss them with a partner. A fifth strategy is to make connections explicit. Students need to realize and make connections with the mathematical ideas. Students may need help to build the new learning on what the already know. Another strategy that Burns suggests is to encourage mental calculations. This will give students…

For collecting and recording data in regards to the focus learner, I plan on implementing a daily assessment record as well as a progress monitoring sheet that will enable me to measure the progress made by the focus learner on her learning goal. The data that I chose to include on my daily assessment record was: type of math problem, strategy used to solve the word problem, did the focus learner use the appropriate operation to solve the word problem, was the focus learner correct in computation of the word problem, and did the focus learner solve the word problem individually or with prompts. The progress monitoring sheet included the focus learner’s modifications and accommodations that are implemented on her IEP as well as her goal listed…

A thorough analysis of my experience in Writing 101 taught me many things. A major takeaway from this class is never to overestimate my abilities. While taking this course, I was also trying to handle two other classes, a full-time job, and a hormonal teenager. I feel I personally overestimated my abilities. Prior to taking this course I did not have a strong background in writing or English for that matter. I honestly feel writing is my weakest subject. I know I will have to retake this course. When I do retake the class, I will undoubtedly ensure I do not have any other distractions. I must take this course as a stand-alone class. I also will make certain this be a face to face course. I feel the lessons in this course are exquisite. However, I should have asked for help sooner. I now…

Going on the first day I didn’t know what to expect or how the meeting would play out however, I think the meeting went well. Being able to share my case with my peers gave me new insights on a few different methods that can be used to support a student with a learning and behavior disability. Through this meeting I was able to come up with new strategies that can be implemented by myself, the student, and the parents in order to better assist the student’s learning needs. Being the homeroom teacher I felt very supported and I felt I had to be confident in the information that was being delivered to the parent. In the meeting I found we were efficient in producing a plan for Rose and made good use of the time that was provided.…
