History of Folgers Coffee
The journey for the brand Folgers began in 1851. At this time it was known as Pioneer Stream Coffee and was sent along with James A Folgers to the gold mines as samples for ordering and selling in the stores surrounding the small towns there. As productivity increased James was able to earn enough money to buy into the coffee business. After a short while, he brought out his partners and renamed the company J.A. Folger and Company. He began the whole selling of ground coffee which was ready to be used and drank quickly. ("Folgers", n.a.)
After his death in 1889, his son James A. Folger II expanded the company dramatically. He also introduced different grades of the roasted blends including a more expensive grade known as Folgers Golden Gate Coffee. By the early 1900s, a young businessman, Frank P. Atha proposed that the company open a coffee plant in Texas to keep up with demand. As a few more years passed he was able to convince the company to open a secondary plant in Kansas. In 1963, the Proctor and Gamble Company acquired the business after a long and successful beginning. It is now known only as Folgers and is the number one selling brand of coffee. By 2008, Folgers Brand Completed a disclosed merge with the J.M Smucker’s company and is continuing to expand. ("Folgers", n.a.)
