feel between the two chips. In content 8 we had a reading from Flinn, The Cooking Counter Cooking School and Bourdain in the Food text, Food Is Good.
Both authors had the idea that food has power, and that there is a kind of power that food holds over us. Bourdain had childhood experiences with food that left a lasting imprint with him. Finally the reading from content 9 was Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and we read excerpts from the Cooking Ape by Elisabeth Townsend. In fast food nation one part stuck out to me. Surrogate Salesmen, are kids that persuade other people, mostly their parents to get what they want. They called it pester power which was the power to nag our parents much we could get what we want. I related to that because as a young girl every time I would set foot in a store I would immediately start that with my parents. My takeaway on the reasons for food studies is that it was worthwhile. I learned a lot more beyond me just consuming food. There was a lot I didn’t know and never knew I would find interesting. I also enjoyed connecting food to my own personal life with quotes and readings from great
authors.
