The Food Sovereignty and Security in Guatemala
Food is a substance that helps the world to sustain life and growth. Food has been part of the human population throughout many centuries, however it has prospects such as food sovereignty and security. Food sovereignty is a condition in which food is produced and grown by different methods and the right for people to declare their agricultural policies and food (Rosenberger 18). Food security is the condition in which an individual has access to healthy and nourished food supplies (Rosenberger 18). Both of these concepts of food are focused on the country Guatemala. For the Catholic Church, special foods are prepared for their events. Tamales are an important dish for ceremonial occasions and is used in the Catholic Church (“Guatemala” 2016). All of these special foods are used for all the significant parties or events. The foods that are prepared are special, but the production that are used for exporting are as important for the country of Guatemala. Some of the agricultural resources that are exported are, coffee, bananas, sugar, and cotton (“Guatemala” 2016). Guatemala exports their goods to many places, however they buy more food from other places than their own (“Guatemala” 2016). Although the most important aspect of Guatemala is the food, it also has other prospects such as their language and culture. Most people in Guatemala speak Spanish, while others speak their indigenous languages (“Guatemala” 2016). It is mostly made of 59% of a group called Ladino (“Guatemala” 2016). This ethnic group is made of Amerindian and Spanish (“Guatemala” 2016).
