Authentic Chinese Cuisine
When you begin to think about food the thoughts are innumerous. Food surrounds you, the nation, the world, and me. Food is obviously a bare necessity to a successful life. However, when I begin to think about food many memories come to mind, memories that will last a lifetime. I begin to think about Christmas and Thanksgiving at my grandparent’s house where all the family is gathered around. I think about cruises I have taken where I have eaten authentic Jamaican, Bahamian, and various other ethnic group’s food. However, the trip that seems to come to mind is when my family and I traveled to New York City to visit my great aunt. A while back, when I was a freshman in high school, I took a trip to New York City. I was absolutely amazed at all of the tall buildings, lights, and people. My family and I were ecstatic about everything. The first place we visited was China Town for the various shopping venues that it had to offer. As time passed, we decided that we were going to eat there as well. We went to a place called “Dim Sum” an authentic Chinese restaurant. The waiters and waitresses could not even understand what we were saying to them, but fortunately my cousin Chris is married to a woman from China that guided us and helped us order. Meyerhoffer 2 looking at the menu, I noticed familiar items that I had seen here in North Carolina at various Chinese restaurants so my instinct was to order what I knew. However, I was completely blind sided when the plate was placed in front of me, and it looked nothing even close to what I had seen here at home. I asked Wen, my cousin’s wife, what they had given me because to be honest I didn’t think the waitress had given me the correct plate. However, I
