If the NFL is going to be safer they need to relinquish all of their information and research on player brain injuries. Some good things are being done to rule changes to make the game safer, but it is still not enough. In Soccer, the players have to wear uniforms which consist of shorts, shirts, socks, and cleats. For protection players only have shin guards to use and the goalkeeper has padded gloves to avoid injuries. There is additional equipment needed for this sport like flags and cones. Unlike American Football, the players have to wear much more gear than Soccer. The players also have to use a uniform. Therefore, football players are required to use football cleats, tight pants, and a jersey that states the player’s name, number, and team identity. Each jersey number categories the position of the player. The jersey needs to be larger in size so it can accommodate the shoulder pads that players use as protection for their upper body. There are other padding that protects the elbows, thighs, hip, tail, and knees. Even the head helmets and face mask which is secured to the head with a chin strap, that offers some head protection have some padding to prevent a concoction. Both sports require a use of a ball; however, the shape differs greatly. The round shaped ball is use in soccer and the oval shaped ball in football. Each ball has significance while playing game. The league has been around for a long time and the safety regulations have improved drastically. In the 1920’s all the way through the 1940’s the game of football was played with forms of leather helmets. These styles of head protectors provided almost zero percent increase in head protection. Finally in the 50’s and 60’s the recognizable plastic helmet was introduced. The real breakthrough was when the company Riddell appeared in the 70’s. They added air in the padded helmets to reduce impact. Riddell has been the leader in helmet safety ever since.…

A football helmet has long been time iconic symbol and cultural artifact. American football can be traced back to the mid-19th century. The very first intercollegiate game was played in 1869 and the first professional game was played in 1892; however, they did not use helmets. In fact the leather helmet was not invented until the early 1900s, and its use was not enforced until the 1920s. Since that time helmets have evolved and become more protective. In 1939, Riddell, a company in Illinois, manufactured plastic helmets because they thought it would be safer for the players. Football helmets became mandatory by the 1940s in the NFL and plastic facemasks were being put on them as well. The helmets we see players wearing did not come onto the market until the 1990s. Todays helmets are made of polycarbonate and are much stronger than any previously made helmet. Riddell has recently developed a helmet called the Revolution, which is supposed to be more concussion proof, but in theory there is no such thing.…
