From reading the two assigned papers discussing the Ford Pinto fires, it is easy for someone to judge Gioia’s decisions as fallible before all the factors are in place. For example, the culture of the Ford motor company at the time, Gioa’s mental state. I believe he feels very responsible and that is why he wrote the paper and uses it as a living case study in his MBA classes. From Hookers generalization test I believe Gioia’s decision not to recall the Ford Pinto would pass. According to Rawls Difference principle: A policy must result in the greatest benefit for those who are least advantaged after the policy is generally adopted. In Gioia’s decision I believe this does not pass. The people least advantaged by his decision are the consumers of the Ford Pinto who are at danger of being killed or severally burnt. Gioia’s decision does not pass Rawls liberty principle because, by not putting the Ford Pinto on the recall list he was inadvertently putting the consumer at grave risk.
