After the resignation of Richard Nixon, Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr became the 38th President of the United States, from August 1974 to January 1977. Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr was an American politician who was borned in July 14, 1913, Omaha, NE. He was in the Republican party and his vice president was Nelson Rockefeller (1974–1977). He even had a basic belief of philosophy of fiscal conservatism. Ford was happily married to Betty Ford and had four children and their names were: Susan Ford, Steven Ford, John Gardner Ford, Michael Gerald Ford. Throughout Ford's life, he has made many successful and risky choices. Essentially he won the the Presidential Medal of Freedom award. Since the Watergate investigation was being brought up more, Nixon wanted Ford to defend him and represent the administration. Though Nixon's plan didn't go as well, on August 9, 1974, Nixon resigned from office rather than face an impeachment trial over his role in the scandal. Ford immediately took presidency and the task of reassuring a shaken and demoralized American public. At the end Nixon was free, Ford pardoned Nixon for his crimes during presidency. Meaning that he did not face any criminal charges for his actions during the Watergate scandal. This let to a controversy because Americans wanted to see Nixon pay for his actions that he did in the Watergate scandal. Some even say it wasn't fair for Ford to pardon him, others say that Ford and Nixon had a deal all along; Nixon gets pardoned, Ford becomes president. That is why in 1976 when the reelection recur, he lost in the election vs Democrat Jimmy Carter. During that year Ford retired from congress. But former president Ford still was active in politics during his retirement. He did things like: give inspirational speeches, served on the boards of major corporations and even did hobbies. Since Ford and his wife, had the problem of alcoholism, they opened up the Betty Ford Clinic in California for those who had the same problem. There, people received treatment, rehabilitation for alcohol addiction and they even did research. In the end, Ford received the Presidential Medal of Freedom award in 1999, which is a high American civilian honor. Sadly on December 26, 2006, Ford died at his home in Rancho Mirage, California. He was 93 years old and during the contemporary time of his death he was known as the oldest United States

    A few years after Richard Nixon resigned because of the Watergate Scandal he apologized in a live interview. Four years after Nixon’s resignation, he agreed to a series of interviews with David Frost, a british journalist. The first series of interviews started in May of 1977.
