show the importance of it.
What most people do not know is that a CSI does multiple things in multiple environments. Meaning that, some may do things inside and other may do things outside. While outside a CSI is asked to work in whatever weather, heat, cold, and rain. While inside they can be exposed to various types of chemicals.
There are multiple tasks that a CSI does at a crime scene. Besides all the things that people see a CSI does on television, things like looking for finger prints and looking and packing things left at the scene. Not only do they look for stuff but also they take pictures of the things they find. The first task of a CSI, if it is not done already by the parole officer (Wecht, 18), is secure the crime scene. When the scene is secured they then do an overview of the scene then they will begin to actually investigate the scene (Lyle, 32). When at the scene they always look for fingerprints other than looking for fingerprints they will also look for footprints, hairs, tire tracks( if its outside ), bodily fluids, etc. ( Ferguson, 17) using multiple chemicals such as, Ninhydrin, Liqui-Drox, Dab, Ardox, etc. (George, 46-51). When they are finished investigating whatever they find they put in zip-lock bags, pack everything up, and deliver there things to the lab or morgue (if there is a dead body).
While some CSI's work at the crime scene others may work in the lab or a morgue. The lab is where the real investigation starts, in the lab us where they begin to analyze the things found at the crime scene. It is where they begin to develop what happened at the scene, how it happened, and who did it. The morgue is the same but what they do in there is work with the forensic anthropologists, entomologists, odontologists, and pathologists in dissecting the body and bones figuring out possibilities on how they died and when they died.
When deciding on a career, one should start by knowing the educational background necessary for that career.
Knowing what type of education you is important because one can want to be something but because their level of education of it is not high enough they most likely will not get the job. If one does not have at least a high school diploma he cannot obtain a CSI position (Ferguson, 18). Having a bachelor’s degree in forensic science is a benefit to anyone wanting to become a CSI (Ferguson, 22). A forensic science degree is the only thing one can take up to become a CSI they can also take biology, chemistry, or criminal justice. The colleges I am still deciding on whether I should attend Saint Leo University or Cedarville University. Saint Leo because they is well known for their criminal justice program and Cedarville because the majority of the students that graduate from there are very …show more content…
successful.
When one understands the educational background, he should begin to understand the general qualification. General qualifications are skilled in math and science and a mindset built on curiosity. One would have to be skilled in math because it builds your ability to think plus there are lots of things you would need to know concerning measurements. If there is no skill in science how can one truly be a CSI? The CSI has basically everything to do with science because there are some many scientific procedures they have to follow dealing mostly with chemicals. The curious mind, without that CSI's most likely will not be willing to think of different ways the criminal may have done his crime.
The availability of this job is high and is still expected to increase in the next few years. This job is expected increase because the crime rate is expected to increase so there is going to be a higher demand for CSI’s to solve the crimes. If the crime rate increased without the availability for people to get jobs does not increase then the CSI’s already employed would most likely have to work twice as hard. Making it even harder for a CSI to spend quality time with their family.
There are additional benefits to being a CSI other than just the salary. The salary ranges are $30,990- $80,330+ (Ferguson, 15). The median salary for a CSI hired by a local government is $53,300; for one hired by a state is $51,900 (Ferguson, 21). The highest salary that a CSI received was $95,240 and that was one hired by the federal government.
The additional benefits to being a CSI are the thrill, excitement one gets when he finally cracks a case and finds the suspect. Or the extra vacation days one gets because the job may be emotionally draining. Even the down time is given to any professional CSI's. People have said this career is never boring because it is always something new every day.
There are downsides to being a CSI. One of the downsides to being a CSI is that there is no "normal" living standards as Ms. Munro said. She said that between shift work and court, plus potentially being exposed to various biohazards and chemical substances there is no normal life. Another person stated that this career is, "A middle of the night, weekends, called in from vacation" type of career (Cush). Another downside to this career is they often face pressure from other law enforcement professionals to complete their analysis in short order.
Because of the drastic increase in crime and reckless behavior, CSI will be very much needed. Statistics show that in 2015 crime rate has increased by 6.2 percent in murder and 2.3 percent in aggravated assault since 2014 (washingtonpost.com). Another reason there will be a need for CSI's is because criminals are getting smarter at covering up their tracks because of the television series (Lyle, 19).
Because this increase in crime rate the future need of this career should increase also and so should the positions available. Meaning that because there is going to be a demand for CSI's, the jobs available would have to increase. And with the increase in jobs there may be an increase in advancement in these jobs. Really the advancing to another stage depends on where the CSI works. In Orlando the advancement opportunities are high (Munro), while maybe somewhere else the advancement opportunities may be low. Probably because certain places have less people so that is less people that needs to take on the role of a leader.
Christian service can be done in this career. How? Well, all CSI are work in groups because all the tasks they have to perform would be too much to handle for one person , plus some may have to investigate more than one crime scene. Because they are always with one or more people, it should be easy for one to share the gospel. When at a crime scene or off they may ask interrogate people, which they can then conclude with speaking about Christ.
CSI's are very much important in a society. Without them who would investigate the crime scenes before all the evidence that might be there before it is all gone? Who is going to know the procedure done at the crime scene. It would most likely become a requirement for cops to learn because there is no one else there to do it.
Even though a CSI position has no authority that comes with it, they are still important to the police department. The police secure the same keeping everyone, except those that is suppose to be there, out. If there were no CSI's, it would cause more police to be at the crime trying to investigate it.
CSI have duties that need to be done in order to improve the society. With no one fulfilling the tasks of a CSI it is going to be harder to catch criminals because their tracks might be covered up. And know that this crime might increase even more than it already has.
In conclusion knowing the requirements to a specific career is something that one should always know.
A person should always know the requirements because that career can be their aspiration but if they do not know the requirement to get there they will never know if they are doing something that is going to benefit them and their journey. When one really wants to know something they will research it.
Because I wanted to be a crime scene investigator I have decided to research it. Before, really wanted to do it really wanted to do it, but because I researched it I began to gain more knowledge about it. Research is meant to help people because without it people will not be able to gain more knowledge. Some people make bad decision simply because they do not research the thing before they did it.
Because I researched the career I choose, I’ve decided that I’m not that excited about it, right not I’m so sure on what I really want to be, but I do think that I want to be a juvenile probation officer because I want to be an example to young African American boys. I want to show them that they really can be something in life; and I want to show them how to they can do it. I’m not sure that that is where God has called me to, but for now that is my focus until God tells me
otherwise.
