goodbye to his mother, who had a rough night, and that made him feel guilty. On his way to
school, his overly persistent friend (Lily) comes up to him and talks about how she forgives him
for lying and how her mom wants to give him allowances because his mother has cancer, but
Conor does not forgive her because Lily is the one who told her friends about Conor's situation
in the first place. Conor feels so angry that, in his mind, the world gets dark with storms, and
Conor feels like he could rip Lily apart. At school he, like everyday at school, gets bullied by
Harry (who seems to be testing him) at lunch time, but this time Lily does not …show more content…
After lunch,
Miss Kwan, the principal, talked to him about how her door is always open if he needs someone
to talk to, but he hated hearing that from people. That evening, his grandmother tells him that his
mother is going back to the hospital, he is staying at her house, and his father is coming into
town, which hits him like bricks. In Patrick Ness' book, The Monster Calls, Conor said, "'Dads
coming!'" (75). Conor had not see his father, who lives in America, for two years, so he was
nervous but excited. After his grandmother talk to Conor, he went upstairs to his room where his
mother was. His mother, not really letting him know the truth about what was happening,

When he went to visit his mother, his mother

Conor's dad took him outside to prepare him for the worst, but Conor would not listen, believing
the the yew tree would save his mom.
#2. There is a bitter Apothecary, a person who make old potion from berries, leaves, and bark to
heal people, who lived years ago, and his supplies were running low because of industrialism. He
wanted to cut down a parsons yew tree for its healing power and so his business could prosper.
The parson denied the Apothecary the tree, and the parson preached against the Apothecaries
ways. One day, the parsons daughters got sick, and nothing they did helped. The parson went to
the Apothecary house and pleaded for him to heal his to daughters, but the Apothecary said that
he would not help because the parson gave up his belief; Also, the Apothecary said that belief is
half the healing and that is why he would not help. His two daughters died that night. I think that
the moral of the story is to treat other like you would like to be treated because if the parson
