To achieve great things, it is going to take a little sweat, tears and hard work. From the beginning of his life, Forrest Gump projected hard work that influenced youth throughout the country (Chumo). Forrest had challenges unlike most of his peers growing up, being a son without a father and being bullied on a day to day basis. Most adolescents today would simply give up and not even try to make a life better for themselves. However, Forrest Gump sends the message to youth of toughness, determination and hard work. Many people want to collect the feeling of reaching the American Dream by sacrificing themselves, whether that is for their family, friends or their country. In the film Forrest Gump this displayed as Forrest goes off to Vietnam. Forrest, going to war not knowing what he was getting himself into however, he knew what he was doing was for the country. Similar to the men and women of America overseas. For that this is their American Dream knowing that their love ones are safe and sound in the homeland. Also, Gump sacrificed his life for a fellow soldier, when they were getting attacked in Vietnam. Overall sacrificing your life takes tremendous courage but, is worth it in the end. Clarence Boesch, a veteran described his American dream as, “The American dream in war times is confusing to tell, you need to know that sacrificing yourself for your country and the ones you love is the ultimate dream to me.” Knowing perfectly well that they might not make it out they still doing it because they know they have to.
