The first aspect of psychology that we will look at is behaviorism.
Behaviorism is the study of behavior as it relates to psychology. It proposes that learning can result from consequences from rewards or punishments that can be associated with specific behaviors. An example of behaviorism is training a dog with a bell to know when it is time to eat. If you start by ringing a bell every time right before you feed the dog, the dog will begin to learn that the bell is associated with feeding. By doing this the dog has learned that by ringing the bell that he is about to be fed. This can be associated today in many ways. We know that if we go to work every day that at the end of the work period we will be paid. We also know that every day at a certain time we get a lunch break to eat and our bodies will naturally get use to eating at a certain time and will be anticipating
lunch. The second aspect of psychology that we will look at is humanistic perspective. The humanistic perspective values the integrity of each individual. This perspective can be distorted if the individual is preoccupied with the approval of others. This perspective also shows that people must satisfy the essential needs of food, water, and shelter before it can realize their full potential. An example as a result of humanistic perspective is the client-centered therapy which therapist expresses empathy or acceptance of the person’s experience. This perspective influences psychology today with the advancements and availability of counseling of individuals that need it. The third aspect of psychology that we will look at is psychodynamic perspective. The psychodynamic perspective is the urge to satisfy innate biological drives. The main drive that people want to satisfy is their sexual drive. This aspect also shows individuals needs of secure relationships with others. An example of this is an infant needs the trust of a reliable parent to feel secure. Each aspect of psychology has different factors that affect it. Behaviorism is based on external forces, mainly punishment and reward. Humanistic is based on everyone having a true inner core or self. Changes are a result from abandoning one’s self. Psychodynamic behavior is shaped by internal forces and unresolved internal conflicts are the source of mental problems. These are just a few of the different factors of each aspect. These are just a few different aspects of psychology. The first aspect of psychology we discussed was behaviorism. The second aspect of psychology that we discussed was humanistic perspective. The third aspect of psychology we discussed was the psychodynamic perspective. Lastly we discussed some differences in each aspect. If these aspects are researched from the origins it can help us understand more of psychology today.
