Throughout our country’s history there have been many people whom we have classified as true Canadian heroes. There are war heroes like Billy Bishop, inventors such as Charles Best and Frederick Banting, and sports heroes like Paul Henderson. One name that will always come to mind is Terry Fox. Terry Fox inspired many Canadians to be motivated regardless of any obstacles that they may be faced to overcome.…
According to the article “A Practical Guide to Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces,” many stories fit into a basic structure that follows a particular pattern. For example, in the popular series, Harry Potter, Harry believes he is just a regular boy living in his ordinary world in the beginning of this story. When Harry is first told he is a wizard he refuses to believe it. Then, he is taken to a magical school where his adventure begins and he starts to discover the world of wizardry (CITE). Already this story follows the basic outline of the hero’s journey. Later in this analysis the entire diagram of the hero’s journey will be revealed explaining more of how Harry Potter and many other stories follow this outline perfectly.…
After watching the video and discovering a little more about Terry Fox with the guest speaker and all, it has reminded me once again about Terry's courageous achievement. For many years, ever since I came to Canada, I learned about Terry Fox, ran the Terry Fox Run, Terry Fox fundraising for Cancer Research, watched videos about Terry during assemblies, and have discussed about Terry's bravery; each time I hear about him, he never ceases to make me look back at myself and think, 'If Terry can run the Marathon of Hope with an amputated leg, what can anything else stop me from achieving my goals?'…
After the show Peeta and Katniss attend a party at the Capitol. They feel that the Capitol is wasteful and hate their rituals. They shortly discuss helping a rebellion. A man named Plutarch Heavensbee talks with Katniss for a while. He then proceeds to show her his mockingjay symbol on his watch.…
The story of Fox Company’s last stand in the frozen hills of northern Korea serves As a testament to the human will in the face of overwhelming forces of opposition. The never say die attitude of every man on that hill is proof why the Marines can take every hardship that the world can throw at them and still have the ingrained training while having the attitude to fight back, keep moving, with the will to never give up.…
Marines in combat is like no other fighting force in the world. Marines were given the name first to fight because they are some of the bravest and best trained to take the first waves of attack. The story of the last stand of Fox company in the cold hills of North Korea has added to the platform today of how Marines are trained and respected the Corps is. Battle of Belleau Wood and Iwo Jima are other wars who stand equal to what Marines have become. These battles show Marines how Marines are supposed to stand up in a fight and never back down or surrender. The determination and devotion of every Marine on that hill in the trenches including Private Hector Cafferata are proof that Marines are Americas top fighting force.…
Christopher McCandless was destined to die as soon as he decided to enter the Alaskan wild unprepared. There were multiple reasons that prompted McCandless’ decision; however, if he had planned more and obtained the necessary materials to survive in the wilderness, he could very well still be alive today. Chris made a lot of careless errors on his adventure, and these mistakes foreshadowed an inevitable death that he came to peace with as he said his goodbyes to the people he loved and met along the way.…
The battle on Fox Hill in North Korea was known as an inspirational triumph to the Marine Corps and to America. The courageous acts made there were just as heroic as those done in Iwo Jima, Khe Sanh, and Belleau Wood, which were also marked as some of our proudest moments in history. In 1981, the 27th Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Robert H. Barrow, wrote in a letter to Captain William Barber, “I regard your performance as commander of Fox Company at Toktong Pass from November 27 through December 2, 1950, as the single most distinguished act of personal courage and extraordinary leadership I have witnessed or about which I read.”…

I can not believe that Katniss and Peeta have done this well in the games. They would not be where they are without my training to help them. They are both very talented and I know they can win it, but why is Katniss trying to save Peeta? Katniss is skilled and she has shown me she can win the Hunger Games, but trying to handle Peeta could affect if she ever gets to see her family. That's why I gave her the syrup, so she has time to go to the Cornucopia. If she doesn’t go then Peeta will die and not be able to see his family. It is the only way that Peeta can survive. I know that she can make it out alive with the backpack in her hands. I bet everyone at home is nervous for you because my heart is beating like crazy but, I know she can do…
Specialists say that according to analysis, the monkeys were programed to catch Katniss only. Peeta was there, however, but were completely ignored by the monkeys. If you were nearby you might of heard Peeta yelling at the monkeys to come get him. This may have been to help Katniss get away…
In my paper I am going to analyze one of the Sam Shepards play. Its name sounds depressive but it completely fulfils the main idea of the play – Buried Child. From the information I read about the author I deduced that he wrote it on the basis of his own personal experience in his childhood. Sam Shepard grew up on the farm in California and was a member of a broken family because his father was an alcoholic. The play was firstly produced in the year 1978. From this and from the story itself implies my presumption that the whole story is set in the 1970’s when the USA was in a hard economic situation caused by the war in Vietnam. To be more concrete it is set in Illinois on the farm where nothing grow anymore.…
While they are waiting for the bus, James recalls the time before his father went off to the war, when things were better for the family. He also recall the time when his mother made him kill two birds caught in the traps that he and his brother set for owls and then demanded that he kill the other for the food of the family. James refused to do this, so his mother beat him until he gave in. As they are eating, James…
