Francis BACON
Francis Bacon: Essays, J.M. Dent and Sons, London, 1972 (Introduction by
Michael Hawkins)
In Francis Bacon, we see great brilliance of intellect wedded with the dual taints of misanthropy and misogyny. Even before the proclamations of Descartes, Bacon viewed others and the world as mere objects, and his own being as sovereign. He viewed love as both burden and liability to those real men of history who flexed muscle.
Bacon was a man most knowledgeable in the arts of human power. He consorted with kings and queens and saw all of life as falling within his field of endeavor. At the age of 46, he was granted the mantle of Solicitor-General by King James I. Ten years later, he had become AttorneyGeneral.
As an active member of Parliament he was fully immersed in the power politics of his day. He was among those who urged the execution of Mary Queen of Scots in 1586.
Francis Bacon was one of the first political strategists to clearly articulate the principles of
Balance of Power politics. He was a strong proponent of pre-emptive war and viewed the exercise of military might through warfare as a means of maintaining the supremacy of powerful states. And all this long before the rise of the American Imperium.
Bacon was the ultimate pragmatist and opportunist. Like Macchiavelli, whom he greatly admired,
Bacon was a master of knowing how best to manage a state and to preserve the power of its rulers, but remained cynically dismissive of the stirrings of the human heart. He placed a high value on cunning, and viewed love as a form of human weakness. He unquestionably had a rare knowledge regarding ways of exercising power in the world.
He also possessed an astute knowledge of human nature, and understood how best to employ both the nobler and the baser instincts in others to achieve his purposes.
Bacon attained his insights through both intimate familiarity with political process and intrigue, and through an early and careful study of historical precedents. He had a deep

However, during the year he studying at the grammar school, Benjamin Franklin had shown that his talents and maturity are far superior than other same-aged kids. In spite of not able to go to school, he still self-studied and tried to obtain any resources that he can possibly gain to continue studying. He indicated, “From a Child I was fond of Reading, and all the little Money that came into my hands was ever laid out in Books.” Talent itself, apparently, is never ample, Benjamin Franklin’s hard-working is actually the key point that makes him successful. After he stopped attending the grammar school, Benjamin Franklin helped his father making soaps, and at the age of twelve, he became an apprentice in his brother’s printing press learning printing skills. Though his life was tough, Benjamin Franklin still tried hard to absorb more information as much as possible. He incredibly learned while printing, after work, and during meals with his eagerness of pursuing his knowledge with any kinds of approaches. “I presently found that I could save half what he paid me. This was an additional Fund for buying Books” One of the reasons that Franklin turned into vegetarian is because he could save money by not eating meat to buy more books to read. What Benjamin Franklin had done sowed the seeds of the solid foundations for his future on politics, science, history, literature and some other…

Michael Taylor. The Secret Bard. Washington Square Press, 1961. The author’s informative personal views make it understandable that the truth can never be reached by listening to the voice of authority. A stand reflecting Bacon’s views are that laws are made to protect the rights of the people, not to feed the lawyers. For instance, he lead many acts towards helping the state’s individualism through the people and not the laws. A good example the author explains about is how Francis pushed for his way in Parliament for union with the people from Scotland to strengthen England against threats from the continent, and pushed for expansion…

Although research has shown that the presence of specific traits alone do not ensure successful leadership, it has been proven that successful historical leaders share certain key traits. According to Shelley Kirkpatrick and Edwin Locke, “leaders do not have to be great men or women by being intellectual geniuses or omniscient prophets to succeed, but they do need to have the "right stuff" and this stuff is not equally present in all people” .…
