Lesson I. History of Educational Technology
The Evolving Concept of Educational Technology
Ancient Greece = formulated cognitive rules
Middle Age = Pierre Abelard introduced the technology of instruction. =Comenius, Pestalozzi, Froebel, Herbart and Montesorri contributed their own concepts of educational technology. = Johann Comenius illustrated textbook for children studying latin and sciences. = Edward Thorndike and John Dewey formulated the theory of learning and scientific method respectively.
The 19th century = production of textbooks and use of blackboards. = improvement of writing implement (pen and ink). = photography was invented. = give way to visual instruction.
1920 =visual media are widely accepted. =came the publication of audio-visual media text.
1926 =educational films were used as the instructional media.
1927
= Pressey wrote programmed learning through a machine which are tested and confirmed learning a learning task.
1932 = first instructional TV program was wired in State University in IOWA.
World War II =US government encouraged the implementation of instruction of the military programs.

Roles of Educational Technology
1. Increase the quality of learning or or the degree of mastery.
2. Decrease the time for learners to obtain desired learning objective.
3. Increase the efficiency of teachers in terms of numbers of learning taught without reducing the quality of learning.
4. Reduce educational cost without affecting educational quality.

1. Gradual shift to a more student-centered approach.
2. Ever widening realization that there is more
