Franklin Reyes Jr.: Three Years In Prison Analysis
Franklin Reyes Jr., 19, was sentenced to a minimum of three years in prison for accidentally killing 4-year-old Ariel Russo. In June 2013, Reyes was driving on the Upper West Side when an officer attempted to stop him for making an illegal turn. He tried to flee the scene, and in doing so jumped the curb and slammed the car into Ariel and her grandmother.
In March 2015, Reyes pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and a variety of other charges in exchange for a reduced sentence of three to nine years in prison. The plea covered offenses committed while Reyes was out on bail, including looting an apartment, attempting to escape jail, and injuring an officer while again fleeing the scene after a traffic violation.
