Freak Boy Research Paper
My ideal bookshelf The book series that really got me into reading was the Harry Potter series. I hadn’t been much of a reader beforehand, but suddenly I was immersed in a faraway world filled with magic and adventure. New possibilities opened up for me, books could take me anywhere I wanted; I could escape my boring everyday life and travel through space and time into a million different lives and experiences far more rich in adventure and love and drama and magic than anything I could hope for in the real world. The Harry Potter series showed me how much a book could offer, and ever since then I have loved reading. The School of Good and Evil will always be one of my favorite books; it was a beautifully written book about how appearances don’t make the person. A girl named Sophie was beautiful and looked like a princess, but she was self-centered and only thought of herself. However, Agatha was the town witch, everyone thought she was evil, but she had a heart of gold and valued her friendship with Sophie above everything else. They soon learned that appearances weren’t everything and at the end instead of choosing a prince Agatha chose to save Sophie and their friendship. …show more content…
Freak Boy is a daring story about transgender teen trying to be accepted in this world and trying to find out who he is. Lies My Girlfriend Told Me is not one of my favorite stories, but is certainly one of the most memorable. The plot follows a young lesbian who finds herself dating the most sought after girl in the school. These stories were the first LGBTQ+ books I’d ever read and they led me to love stories like them. Freak Boy also sheds light on some of the struggles LGBTQ+ kids have to go through and not enough people realize how many hardships they

“Books are uniquely portable magic,” Stephen King wrote in On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. I quite agree with this view. I would be assigned books that would put me to sleep like Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry because it would have no action that I enjoyed. That’s when eighth grade happened. I saw this smart kid reading a book with a bland red cover with the title I am Number Four. At first I thought it was too advanced and boring so I didn’t bother reading it. Until that summer I went to the library and saw the book under the “Most Read” section and I gave it a shot. I could see why that kid wouldn’t put that book down during class. It made me feel so many emotions I’ve never felt before over a book and I couldn’t stop reading the series, again I wouldn’t do my homework and my parents would get mad because I would read too much for once! I have recently just finished all the books in the series up to this point and I’m waiting to get my hands on the one that just recently came out. I have read this series several times because I just thought it was so…

I read it whenever I got the chance. Day and night. The story had come alive and dragged me into it. When I read, I experienced a feeling I had never felt. Everytime I read a chapter from the book, it drawed me in more. I traveled into the book and soon it became a part of me. One day it was Chapter 13 and the next it was Chapter 21. There was no stopping me as I read and read and read. I began to talk to my friends about it and they recommended other books for me to read. I finished the first book, then I read the second, “Catching Fire,” and lastly I read “Mockingjay”. This was the best book series I had ever read in all of my eleven years of being on earth. My brain began to beg me for more reading material as time grew on. Reading began to teach me new things that I hadn’t known before. As my thirst for reading grew, I felt like I was becoming smarter as well. How could a book change so much of a person in so little…

I found this book as disturbing but yet inspiring as well. This book is about a transsexual male to female. Transsexual is a person who has undergone a sex change operation whose sexual identification is entirely with the opposite sex. I could say that the book is disturbing because as I go through words and sentences, images keep showing up in my head. He was discriminated because of his change of sex and his behavior (girly boy). Being discriminated didn't let him to keep being all sad and sorrow. He stopped himself for being let down by people around him. He really is a brave man for writing the book.…
