Douglass. Even though he was mistreated because of his skin color at times. He never felt as inferior as F. Douglass. He accepted himself for who he was. Rather than feeling worthless, he used the years spent in prison to empower himself. He saw being in prison made him more functional than he was before. He says “I have never been so truly free in my life” because he spent most of his time reading books, and educating himself. Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X were both extremely dedicated to their education regardless of their obstacles. Both authors were frustrated and eager to learn. They no longer wanted to be mistreated or discriminated against. They no longer wanted to allow the white people to maintain power over black folks because of lack of education and knowledge. Both men strive to overcome their obstacles in life to become better individuals for the future regardless of their skin color.
