“The passage of time hasn't changed the fact that abortion is a serious lethal, violation of fundamental human rights, and that woman and children deserve better, and that the demands of justice, generosity, and compassion require that the right to life be guaranteed to everyone.” - Chris Smith, member of the Republican party. Abortion has been a hot topic discussed by many parties for the past forty years. Abortion should not be an option because at the moment of conception the unborn child starts to develop at a rapid speed. The unborn child already has a heart in less than a month and fingerprints which is its identification in less than two. infection during the procedure or developing depression afterwards.
It is logical that one who identifies as a pro-life or pro-choice believer must read carefully about the development of a child from conception to birth. Once reading the development sequence from fertilization to five and beyond months,he reader learns that the unborn child has its human identification in less than two months, the gender has already been identified, and the heart is beating (Society for the Protection of Unborn Children). Since the unborn child possesses these things so early, it should be considered a human being and have rights because scientists have stated that to be a human being the person must possess a way of identification such as a fingerprint. Stephen Schwarz, a passionate composer and advocate of pro-life points out that “there is no morally significant difference between the baby that you once were and the adult that you are today. Differences of size, level of development, environment, and degree of dependency are not relevant such that we can say that you had no rights as a baby but you do have rights today” (Klusendorf). Although an unborn child is far less developed than an adult or even a toddler, the unborn child still has a fully living body and identification just as an adult would.
When a woman is pregnant the woman's womb serves the purpose of only taking care of the embryo until birth. A pro-choice believer would say that it’s the woman's body she can do whatever she wishes with it. However, the embryo will be separate piece all to itself. For example and clarification, the woman's womb can be compared to a hotel. A hotel serves the purpose of only taking care of an individual until they no longer need to stay. Just because a human stays at the hotel does not mean the hotel owns them; the same is true for the embryo and the womb. Based on the Human Rights Law, which states that any living being has the right to life, woman should have rights to do what she wants with her body but should not decide the fate of someone else's (HG.org).
Abortion not only kills an innocent life but also can have harsh effects on the woman's body. When a woman begins her procedure a suction device is inserted in the uterus to suction out the fetus. During this procedure the woman could get an infection, a hemorrhage, perforation of the uterus could occur, cervical incompetence or even death (pro action league). After the procedure, the woman could even develop depression, nervous disorders, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction and eating disorders. (pro action league). There is also a six percent of suicide ideation cases among women who have had an abortion (afterbirth.org).
Conversely some argue that the mental health and well-being of a woman is most important and during pregnancy the woman's hormones are unbalanced and cause temporary mood swings.
They may also argue that that ten percent of women who go through a full-term pregnancy develop a mood disorder or even depression (pro action league); However, according to psychology today having an abortion could cause even worse effects such as Post Abortion Stress Syndrome which are the psychological aftereffects of abortion (Susanne Babbel Ph.D., M.F.T). Post Abortion Stress Syndrome (PASS) symptoms would be depression, anxiety and even suicidal thoughts. Studies have even shown that 40-60 percent of women get Post Abortion Stress Syndrome within the first few weeks after abortion (studentsforlife.org).
In conclusion, abortion should not be an option because at the moment of conception the unborn child starts to develop at a rapid speed. It developes a way of identification, a beating heart and furthermore. There is also a great risk of many things during and after the procedure. So abortion should not be an option because there are so many things that the government can do to abolish it. Such as, developing programs to give woman more helpful options so that the woman does not feel as if they need to end their unborn child's life or even making a
law.
