Free The Children

A global citizen is someone who works hard to make the world a better place, helps the community, and feels like they are a part of an emerging world community, thinks are people are equal, accept differences, and understand global issues. Craig kielburger is a perfect example of a global citizen because Craig is willing to act to make the world a more sustainable place, is outraged by social injustice and participates in and contributes to the community at a range of levels from local to global.

Is willing to act to make the world a more sustainable place. Craig makes children all over the world have a voice by creating his foundation free the children. Free the Children is an global/international charity movement found in 1995 by human
rights activist Craig Kielburger. Free the Children have grown into the largest global and international network, and is about children helping children, with more than 100,000 people involved in 35 countries. Free the children are to free children from poverty, exploitation and abuse. And give children a voice, and leadership. This shows Craig is willing to make the world a better place because my making an organization like this it helps children have a voice and ends poverty, and child abuse all over the world. Craig’s foundation helps children go to school and provides schooling and rehabilitation. In two years Craig’s organization “Free the children” raised enough money from donations coming from schools to help create a rehabilitation center that takes in Pakistani children who have escaped slavery. This rehabilitation center provides shelter and school for young children, to keep them out of the child labor system. By Craig doing this it makes the world a much more sustainable place because he's helping children that have been abused emotionally, and physically get their life on track. He helped enslaved children get back to their families. Craig took a trip to South Asia to help enslaved children. He also went with police officers to free the children in Factories. Craig brought these children back to their families Craig’s helping the world become a better and sustainable place by doing this because get to be home with their families, and not be in bad condition, and they get to get away from abuse and be home safely with their families.

Is outraged by social injustice.
The reason Craig started his foundation is because Craig was outraged by social injustice around the world in 3 world countries. Craig was shocked when he found out a 12 year old boy Iqbal Maish in Pakistan, had been murdered for letting the world know about terrible conditions endured by children working in the carpet making industry. This proves he's a good citizen because he's making others aware of the issue, and helping kids that are in desperate need for help. Craig was so outraged by the story of young Pakistani boy he let his peers know about the situation. After Craig heard about the story Craig went to school and told his teacher about what he had read about the young Pakistani boy. He told his teacher that He wants to make a difference and he asked his classmates to help him. All of eighteen of his classmates agreed and Soon Craig and his peers were sending out letters and faxing world leaders, and the Canadian prime minister. This makes him a good global citizen because he's letting children know about issues going on the in the world, and it inspires other children to do what he's doing. Craig spreads his foundation around Canada, to make others aware. Craig and Free The Children began to focused on their goal to make sure that Canada would investigate the process of labeling imported rugs to identify the rugs were not made by children, and to change the law so police can criminally charge Canadians who use child prostitutes in
foreign countries. This makes him a good citizen because he’s letting people that have more power to change poverty, and world issues. And also lets people know globally to help out child slavery.

Participates in and contributes to the community at a range of levels from local to global.
Craig’s “free the children” foundation raises enough money for clean drinking water in Kenya.
When Craig’s foundation “Free the children” raised enough money for people in Kenya to have clean drinking water, and well water he traveled all the way there to get the process going. This makes him a good citizen because he's participating in communities by helping them have good drinking water so they don't have to get sick by drinking dirty water. Craig’s participated in his community by setting up a food bank Craig Kielburger Secondary School students helped him with a food bank. Instead of his students trick-or-treating the students of the school’s Youth in Action club will be going door-to-door for non-perishable food donations in support for food banks. Youth to Action is run by the student’s organization created by Craig kielburger. This makes him a good citizen because he is helping his own community by helping the homeless not starve to death. Craig helps 3rd world countries community with poverty by giving them schooling, and more with his foundation ME to WE. ME to WE, is a foundation that Craig and his brother marc have created. WE helps Villages builds schools and water wells, helps create opportunity programs for people in developing communities and provides medical treatment. The project is designed to address the causes of poverty and remove the barriers to children’s education in the developing world. By him doing this it makes him a good global citizen because he's created a foundation to make a world a better place by making the villages have less poverty by building schools, creating water wells, and getting medical treatment.

Conclusion. This proves that Craig kielburger is a great example of a global citizen because he is dedicated to make this world a better place, is outraged by social justice, and helps his community and other communities all over the world from poverty, child labor, abuse and more.
