First, ponyboy learns the power of friendship and the value of it. “We’re all we’ve got left. We ought to be able to stick together against anything. If we don't have each other, we don’t have anything.” (176). This is important because ponyboy and his friends are like family, and have to stick together. My evaluation of the book is that there are some strengths and weaknesses. The weaknesses are that the author does not give much background on some of the characters, some things in the book are not explained fully, and the ending of the story was fast paced and too short. Some of the strengths are the author uses lots of imagery to describe the characters and their personalities, She continues the themes of friendship and what it means to be a hero, and the author portrays the characters in a way that causes the reader to connect and relate with
