Frits Van Paasschen is a senior business manager who has found success in shaping global strategy across a variety of industries. He is 47 years old, has a wife and three children.
Frits early years paved the way to a rich and exciting life. He worked hard in his younger years, digging ditches for landscaping company and as a janitor at his father’s office. He put his money towards an undergraduate degree that he would take at Amherst College in Massachusetts. Frits, like many, was unsure of his educational path and originally majored in economics and biology. After graduating, Frits choose a different route completely, as he thought his specific skills and energy level was better fitted to a consultant role. He landed a job at Boston Consulting Group and later returned to earn his MBA at Harvard Business School.
In 1995 Paasschen was hired by Disney to be the Vice President of Finance and Planning for Disney Consumer products. Paasschen left Disney in 1997 to take a senior management position with Nike Inc. Nike hired Frits to lead/direct the strategic planning operation, and he held this position until 2004. In March of 2005 he took the job of CEO and President of Coors Brewing Company. In two years with Coors Brewing Company Frits reversed the declining sales of Coors Light beer by 30 percent by adding a temperature sensitive label that turns blue when the bottle is cooled to the perfect temperature. In 2007 Frits Van Paasschen applied the CEO of Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Bruce Duncan, the chair board, had spent five months looking for a new CEO to take over for Steve Heyer who had been expelled from the board. Over 60 candidates were interviewed for the CEO position, but Frits Van Paasschen was chosen unanimously by the Board of Directors.
