Push the clutch all the way down and slide your shifter into the first gear position. In order for you to catch first gear and begin moving smoothly you need to find the friction point in your clutch. The friction point is where your clutch actually catches the gear you’ve selected. To find this, use your ankle and slowly flex your foot upwards and start to depress the clutch. Since we haven’t given the car any gas the engine will stall out, but you want to remember where you had the clutch right before the car shut off; that is your friction…

Ed Gein was born 1906, in Plainview, Wisconsin. His father was a violent alcoholic, and his mother an obsessive Lutheran. His mother kept Ed, and his brother Henry, from any outside influence. Allowing them only to go to school, and return home. His mother often told them bible stories, and preached about how evil alcohol and women were. Ed Gein’s first murder could have been his brother, Henry, because he started to resent their mother. Henry didn’t share his mother’s opinion of the world, and even became worried about how close Ed and their mother had become. In 1944 during a wildfire on the property, Ed ran to the police stating that he had lost his brother in the fire. After alerting the authorities, Ed led them directly to where the body was. Henry was lying on the ground with blunt trauma to the side of his head, his clothes were also unburned. Police dismissed this evidence, and coroner said he died of asphyxiation. Gein was never formally charged with his brother’s murder.…

Expert testimony is important in any trial, but determining whether or not the testimony is admissible can lead to other problems. The Daubert Standard is used by trial judges during the preliminary assessment. It is crucial that the trial judge assesses the expert’s testimony on if it is not only scientifically valid, but also if the testimony can be applied to the issues properly. To properly determine if the expert testimony meets the Daubert standard there are five criteria’s that must be met; “(1) whether the theories or techniques on which the testimony relies are based on a testable hypothesis; (2) whether the theory or technique has been subject to peer review; (3) whether there is a known or potential rate of error associated with the method; (4) whether there are standards controlling the method; and (5) whether the method is generally accepted in the relevant scientific community” (Kennedy, 2014, p. 1). The Daubert standard prevents trial judges from allowing expert testimony that is not reliable from entering the courtroom as evidence.…

Théodore Géricault was a French artist who was a part of the Enlightenment period or Rococo period, but more specifically and correctly, he was a part of the Romanticist period. Géricault is, also, an important figure of the Romanticism period. His dramatic themes, realistic portraits and haunting portrayals of serious topics helped to pave the way for the themes of rebellion, individuality, and truth that came with this artistic period. Also without him, elements from a pre-existing period, the Enlightenment or Rococo period may not have also come into play with his style and aims. Géricault seeked to emphasize the haunting reality through his artwork, encroaching on rather taboo topics.…

Finlands is worldly renowned as the number one school system. Why is this? Finland's pupils spend an average of three hours a week doing homework while American students spend an average of six hours a week (Klein). Studies found that this is three times too much homework(Wallace). Despite the substantial difference in homework, Finland’s high school graduation rates compare to American graduation rates (Kamenetz) (Coughlan). The key to Finland’s is not homework, but personalized learning.…

The Langerhans cell is named after Paul Langerhans, a German physician and anatomist, who discovered the cells at 21 years old while he was a medical student. Because of their dendritic nature, he mistakenly identified the cells as part of the nervous system. Langerhans cells are dendritic cells of the skin and mucosa, and contain large granules called Birbeck granules. They are present in all layers of the epidermis, but are mostly found in the stratum spinosum. They are also found in the papillary dermis, particularly around blood vessels. They can be found in other tissues, such as lymph nodes, and in association with the condition Langerhans cell histiocytosis.…
