Gang Prevention Policies

This report will highlight a variety of factors with a primary focus on policies that combat youth gang development, having the target audience situated at a local level, the city of Chicago, or, more specifically, Mayor Rahm Emanuel. A very brief history will be provided to explain what lead to the creation of gang prevention policies by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. As well as what it means to have the office’s end goal be “to strengthen the juvenile justice system's efforts to protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and provide services that address the needs of youth and their families” (About OJJDP, n.d). Afterwards, a description and analysis of two gang prevention policies will follow: the Gang
