Some residents do not always view gangs as threats; some gangs are accepted as part of the community. A few feel that local gangs are beneficial in a way that they protect the community. This is evidently true when wars between different races occur (The Gale Group, 2003). For example, in the movie, “Freedom Writers” written by Richard LaGraenese, gang involvement occurred between different races especially in areas of poverty. People were categorized by their ethnicity, and within those groups, gang development showed manifestation. The rivalry between these gangs took place solely because of their race and colour. These ethnic gangs occurred because the area in which they were living was socially disorganized. Wars between each gang only existed in areas that were living in low income and poverty.
