When an obscene photograph appeared in the school yearbook, the administration immediately sought a scapegoat for the iniquity. Angry students and parents blamed Dora, the yearbook editor, for not being perspicacious enough to have spotted the photo before the book was sent to the printer. Now, the school must collect the books and return them to the printer to expurgate the photograph. Dora, a junior, vacillated over whether or not she would sign up for the yearbook staff again next year.…
In the 1930s, Cleveland, Ohio, was becoming a booming metropolis. However, the talk of the decade soon appeared to be about the unsolved murders of multiple victims. The city’s safety director and police were stumped and challenged for over a decade in an effort to solve the cases presented before them. One in particular case aimed to solve the murder of a middle-aged woman known as Florence Genevieve Polillo. To this day, an official confession or discovery has not been made on who the actual killer of Polillo was; although much of the evidence suggests that Dr. Frank Sweeney is the murderer of not only Polillo, but also eleven other innocent…

On June the 11th, 1989, the body of a boy in his late teens was discovered lying on a bench in Hill Park, in the small town of Lenore, Virginia. He had been killed by several stab wounds across his chest and neck. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, jeans, and white tennis shoes. The backpack he was wearing contained only a few granola bars, some bottled water, and a notebook. Most of the notebook was written in an unidentified shorthand, probably only legible to its owner. The boy had no form of ID on him, and nobody came to claim the body. He became known as “the “Hill Park boy” and he remains unidentified to this day.…
The courthouse scene is the most important scene because it determines the plot for the rest of the novel. At the courthouse, a young African American male named Jefferson is sentenced to death row for crimes he has not committed. Appalled by this, Jefferson’s godmother, Miss Emma forces a school teacher named Grant Wiggins to care for Jefferson. Grant teaches Jefferson the life qualities of becoming a man so that he will not die a “hog”. Gaines uses in-depth characterization, styles, and themes to create his classic work.…
In the well-written autobiographical narrative A Summer Life (1990), Gary Soto delivers an original assembly of aspects from himself as a six-year-old child. Soto asserts the scary realization of wants triumphing over what is ethical and he uses many examples of imagery, repetition and a chosen vocabulary to sketch out the ignorance that is evident in a child’s mind. Soto’s purpose is to selectively illuminate feelings of morals, paranoia and imagination that play a leading role in the lives of young children in order to adequately contain the audience’s attention and allow them to apply their own emotions. Given the excessive importance to detail and exquisite symbolism with angels, Soto is writing to a very diverse audience that has some sort of religious or spiritual background or knowledge and it seems he may even be reaching to engage parents’ opinions on the matter.…

One eyewitness declared Burroughs could scrutinize his thoughts. Another test made on the accused was for any "supernatural weaknesses" such as the impotence to quote prayers accurately. Yet another standard was the appearance of a "witch's tit"—any little, abnormal somatic addition, usually fairly compact, through which the witch would sacrifice to the devil when he materialized in the shape of a tiny creature. Rage shadowed by misconduct also speculated a person was a witch, especially when a hex was articulated against a nearby residence or his property approached instantly before the crime transpired.…
Gary Soto once wrote , ¨ I was the first Chicano to write in complete sentences ¨ (“www.goodread.com/ Gary Soto Quotes”) Knowing that Gary Soto was the first Chicano to write a complete sentence gives me a better understanding of what kind of guy Gary Soto is. He helps kids that speak spanish learn english and builds relationships with the kids he helps. He also explains his compassion and love for the people he loves through his poems. Gary Soto uses imagery and relationships to create a unique style by pulling the readers to the setting of his poetry and to establish a setting when you read his poems.…
As we discovered in Project 1, Little Louie, Billy Bad Boy committed a string of crimes, initially resulting in an attempt to rob Commercial Corruption, a local bank. Here, I will identify the specific role that each played with the particular crime, the elements that lead to this conclusion, and the potential defenses the defending party might assert and any inconsistencies that might arise with these defenses.…
