Overall, other important issues for emergence of the development of GRM since the 1970s, include prevention and cure of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, funding of research, campaigning for non-discriminatory policies in employment, housing, and other aspects of civil society, ending bans on military service for gay individuals, expanding hate crimes legislation to include protection for gay, lesbian, and transgender individuals and securing marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples (Levy, 2015). It uncovered many silent gay societies and political organizations, often at odds with one another. Over the years the GRM spread around the world with the sole aim of securing gay rights (Bomboy, 2015 and Fordham University, 2015).
