Her kissing of her wife came at one of the best times for the gay rights movement. Just nine days before the kiss on June 26th the Supreme Court passed law stating that gay marriage must be league in all fifty states. This meant that no state was allowed to refuse marriage to anyone even gay people. If they did they be braking federal law. Like many events in history timing is everything. One example of this is the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Billie Jean King was fighting for women’s rights right after the release of Title IX. This timing allowed for Title IX to improve the equality in women’s sports. Her winning of the match allowed her to help push the women rights movement to much of what it is today. Just like Billie Jean King and her winning her match was almost the same great timing for Abby Wambach and the gay rights movement. The 2015 Women’s World Cup was worldwide viewed event people in every country. The United States was also had just legalized gay marriage. Combining those to events together allowed for the public eye to see that gay marriage is real and that it is here to stay. One was the Tinker Tape Parade. It was the first time ever that the women of the USA World Cup were given a parade in their celebration. Though it was debated for a while if they should even do it, it was decided that these women deserve to be praised. The other accomplishment was when Abby Wambach presented Katlin Jenner with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. This was also a huge moment for the gay rights movement. The 2015 Women’s World Cup was a huge event seen around the world, but for the United States it represented more than just a game between countries. It was a movement for equality among women and a stride in the right direction for the gay right movement. It promoted American pride and provided a distraction for many problems in everyday life. This World Cup was a very important event in American History. Although it is too early to tell what the long term effects of the World Cup will be, it is clear that it will be an event that will change this
