Star Wars manufacturers are making more Kylo Ren and Finn related merchandise instead of making more Rey toys. In the article, “Social media firestorm awakens toymakers to an absent Rey,” by Newsela, the author writes, “...Twitter exploded with the hashtag ’#wheresrey’... an 8-year-old girl wrote Monopoly maker Hasbro, saying ’girls matter’”(Newsela paragraph 3). The people are saying that toy makers are not making enough toys that include the main female actress in Star Wars, Rey. Gender-biased toys encourage children to gain traits parents don’t want their kids to have.
In the article, “What the Research Says: Gender-Typed Toys,” by Judith Elaine Blakemore, the author writes, “Strongly gender-typed toys might encourage attributes that aren’t ones you actually want to foster”(Blakemore paragraph 6) The author is saying these biased toys are giving children certain personality traits they should not develop
with.
Gender-biased toys are developing children in the wrong way. Girls who are into Star Wars are having to play with the masculine toys instead of having their share in Star Wars products. Masculine and Feminine products are influencing children to separate into two different peoples.
