In order to use CAD effectively as a design tool, the designer must have the skills necessary to create, edit, and manipulate a 3D model of a part in order to create a realistic representation of an imagined object. In this activity you will build on the CAD skills that you learned in Activity 5.2b Introduction to CAD Skills. You will learn about and use additional tools and features available in most CAD programs and apply your new CAD skills to the creation of more complex parts that will be used in later activities (as components in the assembly of parts) to create complete products (including a complete Automoblox vehicle and a Button Maker machine).…
Female youth are experiencing higher rates of body dissatisfaction, depression, and anxiety (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016; Grosick, 2013; Mental Health America, 2016), which are often untreated (Mental Health Administration, 2015). Twenty percent of females age 12 to 17 report experiencing one or more major depressive episodes; three times the rate reported by male adolescents (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2015). A similar trend is found for anxiety symptoms and disorders; adolescent female experience rates of social anxiety (Beesdo, Knappe & Pine, 2009), specific phobias (Burstein, et al., 2012), and generalized anxiety disorder (Crozier, Gillihan & Powers, 2011) at rates higher than their male peers.…
Gender Dysphoria is separate from sexual dysfunctions and paraphilic disorders. Tighearnan is undergoing extremely heightened emotions about his mother. Tighearnan seeks his mother’s recognition, acceptance and her support. He looks to his mother to provide acceptance for who he is now not who he was like a female. Tighearnan processes or perceives the experience of discrimination from his mother as his mother is not open to accepting his reassigned gender. He is anxious about the upcoming Christmas holiday, where his whole family will encounter him as his chosen gender for the first time (Alexander Street Press, 2011). Causing additional stress and discomfort Tighearnan is the fact that his employer and co-workers are not aware that he was a female and transitioning into a male as he fears there may be discrimination from those who do not understand his choice (Alexander Street Press, 2011). Even though Tighearnan is open, honest and willing to discuss his transition with some, there is obvious distress associated with his transition with regard to those around him, providing enough information to diagnosis him with 302.6…
Gender Identity Disorder (GID) is defined as: “strong and persistent cross gender identification” and “persistent discomfort with his or her sex or sense of inappropriateness in the gender of that sex (DSM-IV)”. Put simply: it is a painful inner conflict between a person’s physical gender, and the gender he or she identifies as. For example, a person who identifies as a boy may actually feel that he is, and act like a girl. In response to those feelings, people with GID may act and/or present themselves as members of the opposite sex. The disorder may affect things such as their choice of sexual partners, mannerisms, behavior, dress, as well as their own self-concept.…

Gender identity disorder (GID) is now an obsolete term for those who are diagnosed transgendered individuals. The new and professionally approved term is now gender dysphoria. This revamped term dismissed the idea that transgender individuals have a “disorder,” implying some kind of mental instability. While socially, this new terminology brings a new light and approach to the transgender community, the medical aid associated with GID is also now in jeopardy due to the lack of it being an actual disease.…
During last century, our society has changed a lot in terms of accepting minorities LGBTQ, despite there are still people who do not accept them. One of these minorities who had suffered more are the transgender people. They had to change their genders, usually late in life and hiding from the rest of the society. They had to live the entire life being someone who do not fit with their minds and personality. For this reason, Transgender kids should be allowed to start cross-sex hormones before puberty, because it facilitates their lives and it does not carry any further complication later, and they will not have problems during the complex period of adolescence.…
In 2013, a 6 year old boy from Colorado Springs always felt that she was meant to be a female. As early as 18 months old, when she was first able to communicate with her parents, she expressed herself as a girl. This child brought national attention to the pre-adolescence transgender child issue. She was denied access to the girls’ bathrooms at her school. Her parents filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Division and the subject of whether children really know their gender at this age came up for debate.…
Gender identity has become a prominent topic in today’s society as people are becoming more aware of personal identity. Gender awareness is fundamental for self-assessment and predominant in our perception of others. Social pressures also influence gender as they create stereotypes that people are expected to follow. These societal definitions of male and female greatly impact childhood development as they create restrictions and regulatory mechanisms that guide conduct relating to one’s gender and sex throughout the course of life (Bussey and Bandura 1). Societal perceptions of gender play a fundamental role in childhood development; gender conceptions and roles are the product of a network of social influences operating on the basis of a…

Adoption is an extremely sensitive subject,(insert dash) especially for individuals who are Gay or Lesbian. There is much controversy on the topic. There are a variety of ways to which it isn’t possible for a couple to adopt. Infertility is becoming a greater problem in our time. In Gerald P. Mallon’s article, “Assessing Lesbian and Gay Prospective Foster and Adoptive Families: A Focus on the Home Study Process,” in 2007. He introduces a few different ways gay men and lesbian couples go about starting a family and mentions how the decision to adopt or become a foster parent for a child is a huge step in parenting. There are even more studies today that show, gay men and lesbians make good parents. In Scott Weber’s article, “Nursing Care of Families with Parents who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender,” he brings to attention, what the child may experience growing up in such circumstances. Some things a child may experience are teasing and sensitivity to being harassed. Both articles have valid arguments on the topic of gay men and lesbian headed families. Mallon argues how lesbians and gay men are potential parents for many children and youth who need permanent families while Webber argues children of non heterosexual couples are more likely to be teased and sensitive to being harassed.…
The argument here is that if a child were to be misdiagnosed with gender dysphoria, then the effects of hormone replacement therapy may not be reversible in the future. With puberty blockers, they will only block the child from going through puberty for as long as they take them. So if a child takes puberty blockers from ages ten through fourteen then decides at age fifteen that they were not really transgender in the first place, they could stop taking puberty blockers and their intended puberty will go on as…
In recent new titled, “Kids Who Veer from Gender Norms Are at Higher Risk for Abuse”, the reporter Madison Park has unveiled the story of Mich and her parents. The news which has been published on the CNN site reveals the story of Mich, who was bullied and harassed by friends and family for wanting to look like a male instead of a female. This news story is the example of how someone wanting to be the opposite gender can be disturbing to family and friends. It does not mean they have a mental disorder or want to change their gender they are just not comfortable being a girl or boy as they were born. "A lot of children seem to be experimenting with cross-gender behavior,…
