AICE General Paper 8004 Period 2
September 9th 2013 Ever since the creation of Humanity, Gender Inequality has been a major part of history, which is still continuing. It has been affecting women, girls, men, and boys with the experiences of discrimination and exclusion. Stereotypes are the main reason why people are so bias. There not wrong, Gender stratification refers to the ranking of the sexes in such a way that women are unequal in power, resources, prestige, or presumed worth. Gender Inequality has an outcome of how women and men are tied to the economic structure of the society. Knowing that Women make 77 cents to every dollar men make. That means if a man made 24,000 dollars a year, women would only make 16,800. (Harvard.edu; Mary Brinton). That was proven in 2010. Also, Patriarchy is a form of social organizations in which men are dominant but only 105 males live to birth for each 100 female birth, causing fetuses to spontaneously be aborted. As a woman, this leads our minds into conclusion that we are not wanted in this world just because of our sex. Contribution of men to housework and childcare has grown over the past 25 years. Women focus on lower paying jobs as an effect to be discriminated from any powerful position. Also they put more hours into household activities more than men. Gender Inequality has summed up to one of the World’s biggest conflicts. People Musetti Page 2 need to let go of the Inequality stereotypes and recognize the contributions that each individual, female and male can make to the workplaces and relationships. It is unrealistic to expect gender equality if workplaces demand that women be available all the time. If you were black and a girl, you would be treated so wrong just because of whom you are. That is not fair. Woman getting paid less, mainly leads unequal rights. Women enter the labor market later then men and often have to leave periodically because of childcare responsibilities that are not taken care of with men. If we do the same job, we deserve the same money. Men are known as the “powerful, strong” people who can accomplish anything. I believe that we should make everyone equal. The outcome of lives has been meaningless to everyone but you see it affects everyone has a whole. Gender inequality has not just taken over the world but also our minds. It has made a large impact on women, speaking from my perspective. Men had so much power over us, which leads to non-equal rights. One day this nation will come to its senses and realize that both men and Women are has important as each other and that equality shall surpass all negativity. Even with my bias opinion, no one will ever believe that men were lesser than women. Gender Inequality will always stay as gender inequality because people, women or men have experienced the failure of something for being who you are. There is no unseeing things or unbelieving things. This is the end of the beginning.

This research was conducted using an equation that measured education, experience, marriage, and children. The parts of the equation with the larges gaps were experience and children. In experience, it was hardly looked at or mattered for men in the workplace, but for women it was a very high criterion that they had to meet. As for children, it was looked at more, for males, that they will work hard to provide well for their children, even though having no children gives them more independence and fluidity in the workplace. While for women, they are thought to me too family oriented with children and will focus on them more than their work. Gender inequalities in occupational standpoints are becoming much more equal, but as for superiority aspects, the inequality gap has barely made a mark. Some limitations on this article include the date that it was published, causing it to not be up to date with current research and not as correct. Other limitations could be the variables used in their research, such as the equation used to measure their ability to…

tThere was nothing ‘natural’ about monoculture. It was a consequence of imperialist requirements and machinations, extending into areas that were politically independent in name. Monoculture was a characteristic of regions falling under imperialist domination. Certain countries in Latin America such as Costa Rica and Guatemala were forced by United States capitalist firms to concentrate so heavily on growing bananas that they were contemptuously known as ‘banana republics’. In Africa, this concentration on one or two cash-crops for sale abroad had many harmful effects. Sometimes, cash-crops were grown to the exclusion of staple foods — thus causing famines. For instance, in Gambia rice farming was popular before the colonial era, but so much of the best land was transferred to groundnuts that rice had to be imported on a large scale to try and counter the fact that famine was becoming endemic. In Asante, concentration on cocoa raised fears of famine in a region previously famous for yams and other foodstuff.…

Although gender discrimination is hidden with the other social norms, it is present and has a great impact on the daily lives of both men and women. Sexism has a similar effect on society like bacteria; while it may be beneficial for some, it can be harmful to others. This concept is what creates the significant gap between genders, while giving the impression that one gender, generally the male, is superior to the other. Sexism has made its way into a part of daily life; it is simply inevitable for the general population to follow the typical roles, established since the beginnings of the development of humanity. The basic foundations of the roles of men and women are heavily influenced by sexism; therefore, gender discrimination is clearly…

The inequality between men and women still exist in nearly every society today. While there have been improvements and strides towards equality for women, there is still some distance to go before that goal is achieved. Even in America, we have yet to have a women president, women working in the same job as men often get payed less, and we have the added prejudice of women that are considered beautiful being afforded more employment oppurtunites and higher pay. This adds to the subjection of women on another level because women are being looked on by men as objects of desire and are less likely to be valued for who they are just what they look…

Society has conformed our minds to view gender based on one’s role in society. This labels the person as a man or a woman and then classifies them based on the “roles” that society has assigned for each. Gender inequality is caused by the unequal perceptions or even the way someone is treated, based on them being a man or woman. It tends to be the result of what is seen as socially constructed differences of the typical gender roles. This is a social problem I find compelling due to the impact it has on society.…

Not just this but also the way women are treated in the office or whatever their work place is. They lack opportunities, trust and most importantly the due respect. However, they are put to work much more than men.…

What is gender? Gender is the personal traits and life chances that a society links to being female or male. But gender is more than that it something that in most parts of the world defines you before you can even define yourself. Gender is sometimes confused with sex, but sex is just a biological thing while gender is something that society defines and only humans posses. There is something called gender stratification that is the unequal distribution of wealth, power and privilege between men and women. This something that relates to and everyday basis and seen everywhere. The most common thing is discrimination and prejudice. Most of the time this kind of behavior is against women because this is has been always dominated by men and despite a great change over the course of time were women have fought to obtain the same right as men is still very related to machismo. Women have experienced a historic situation of inequality in the social as well as professional aspects. Women are normally the ones that would take care of the children, do the household chores, and in rural areas; they would work in the field with the rest of the family. Just like how the Breaking Barriers article states, “from an early age, girls are dressed in pink boys in blue. Boys are given trucks to play with while girls are offered dolls [..] girls are assigned household duties like washing the dishes and doing laundry, while boys are relegated to mowing the lawn and talking out the trash” (18). Gender inequality in the workplace is becoming less common; yet, gender is a factor that affects both men and women. Also, in Breaking Barriers article it says how “females and males often choose career paths that are traditional for their gender” (18). Females are usually seen in jobs such as nursing or paralegals. Males are typically doing jobs that have to do with welding, carpentry, or engineering. Women could have the same capabilities and maybe even higher qualifications than a men going for the same position, but because of gender inequality the male is more likely to get the job then the female. Men and women should be offered the same job opportunities no matter what gender they are; it should be based on their ability to complete the…

Differentiation between the two genders forms the core of gender ideology. These differences establish social positions, a superordinate-subordinate hierarchy, provide access to resources, and create stereotyped roles for men and women. Consequently, men are associated with high status, productive employment, skills and inheritance, and obtain access to land holdings. On the other hand, women are low in status, receive minimal medical care and education, suffer violence, and are denied life.…

It is undeniable that women, in general, have suffered all sorts of discrimination and have been treated poorly by every society around the world for as long as history has been recorded. All countries in the world have announced their support to equal rights for women. Yet, on a daily basis, various forms of discrimination and violence against females take place around the world. Sometimes, men install glass ceilings to separate women, which prevent them from moving up in their careers. Sometimes, it is manifested through salaries with women being paid less than men. Discriminatory laws and social norms, which give preference to men in different fields, also reduce women to the status of a "second class citizen".…
