Thus, cognitive process also influences societal perception tremendously. Perception allows people to form impressions or draw conclusions from a situation it is the way they view things, a point of view. Perception also allows for stereotyping, in this case stereotyping women by saying they are not qualified enough or are emotionally stable to perform a certain task or obtain a certain title /position in a company. Stereotyping someone is like judging a book by its cover, you don’t know them but you get a feel of the type of person they are by looking at them or engaging in a simple conversation.
Stereotypes commonly exist in genders, men generally perceive women as inferior in the workplace. According to Sheryl Sandberg, women reach less for opportunities, than men do. Men overpower and dominate in the workplace, they are more likely to get promoted because they are confident and always competing to be the first. Sandberg claims women need to get more involved, they need to ‘sit at the table’ not on the sidelines, “women systematically underestimate their own abilities”
