The nullification crisis took place in 1832 -1833 in which South Carolina protested the series of tariffs during the presidency of Andrew Jackson. at this point in time, the north was developing an industrial society where they had factories and mills they were way different from the south who had an agricultural society. The north was fond of this tariff because it benefits the northern industries, the south was not too happy about the tariffs because it meant that prices would go up and could hurt their economy. Andrew Jacksons vice president John C. Calhoun resign to become a senator to defend the nullification in 1828 Congress passes the tariff of 1828 or the "tariff of abominations" to protect northern industries, most people thought that Jackson would repeal the act but instead lets Congress passes the tariff of 1832 which lowered the tariff of abominations southerners felt that they were too high South Carolina calls for a sate convection in which they officially nullify the tariff of 1832 also they threaten secession if tariffs are collected. The compromise of 1833 in which the tariffs rates would fall 10% each year and goes back to the tariff of 1816 the south will favor this Andrew Jackson then passes the force bill in which it states that president can collect tariffs if necessary.
