Gender Stereotypes In She's The Man '

She's the man uses codes and conventions such as the audio and symbolic code to present societies issue of gender quality. Through dialogue and the different characters, this issue and its ideas can be reinforced. The movie shows the main character, Viola dress up as her brother, Sebastian and attend his new school in attempt to prove that she is as good as boys at playing soccer. The few weeks Viola spends at the school she develops friendships and eventually is allowed on the soccer team. Throughout all of this, the movie presents the issue of gender equality in society. How men and woman are surrounded by the typical gender stereotype and how woman are not as good as men.

Violas Mum, Daphne is a character in which the movie portrays to be delicate and feminine. All she wants for her daughter is for her to be a graceful debutante instead of being as engrossed in soccer as she is but Viola is opposite to the gender stereotype and what her mother wants. Viola is made to be different to the typical female in the hobbies she takes part in, such as soccer.
