Traditionalism is that these people had their way of accepting other groups, beliefs, culture or ideas from outside of their own.
People were raised that gay or lesbian are not accepted in their society. In the community, there was people that was willing to teach people to like or accept the group as they are and work together to help miners, but it did not work. Those people are secular rational to their values. After a long and hard march and fight, the group was accepted including the miner who had to leave his parents to go and do what he believes is right for him. The LGSM survived the shame and was able to march for their right. Self-expression values in the movie was when the people looked at the LGSM including the old lady whom had never seen a lesbian and be able to share some good memories with them after the
meeting. I think that in the movie, the LGSM changed the people view of gays and lesbians. They changed peoples culture by adding their values and beliefs. People in the last march in the movie with the big crowd, they told the LGSM group to go on the back because they have few people and if they want to go in the front, they will have to march without their banner. After their miner friends from the other city joined them, they were told to go in the front. This showed me that sometimes, it is hard to accept others values because we don’t understand or don’t know how it might affect ours. Even though the society wanted to stick to their values and belief, with the group, it changed how they view the LGSM group at the end. It took more than just acknowledging the values they had to accept them to even help the miners. There was a family in the movie, a mother with kids who did not want to see the LGSM group because she believed they was going to change they tradition. The community in the movie is more individualism with some collectivism.
