This police raid caused there to be riots. This riot (known as the Stonewall Riots) brought to life the first gay rights organization in the United States of America known as the Gay Liberation Front.
During this time the “America’s Gay” then ended up moving to San Francisco. Harvey Milk also moved to San Francisco to live openly with his partner, Joe Campbell. Though he still decided to keep his homesexuality hidden from his family.
However, they believed that San Francisco would be a tolerant place to live in. But they were still had to face discrimination from local businesses, consumers and employees. On November 27 in 1978, White entered City Hall with a loaded gun (.38 revolver). He started arguing with the Mayor over his $9,600 salary so they decided to move to a private room to avoid being heard, but once there White shot Moscone 2 times in the chest and head. White then went down the hall and shot Harvey 2 times in the chest, head, and once, in the back. He then turned himself in to the police station where he used to work at.
These are all the things that Harvey Milk did to fight for gay people’s rights. Even though they were socially and legally discriminated he didn’t lose hope about settling equal rights for gays.
