Generosity Essay
From the moment we have our first day of school, to the instant we graduate from University, we are taught many basic qualities that build our personalities. In order to have people accept you, using these attributes is a must. Generosity; being a colossal trait, is one we should incorporate into our simplest tasks. Not only can a tiny dose of generosity change a life, it can make you feel good and it can make you a better person. Being generous is an important quality that we should use everyday.

Everyone has been there, simply minding your own business when suddenly you are approached by some kind of charity or homeless person whose asking for your money. Most people, in fact give little or no money and go about there day not realizing how there reaction just affected someones life. Random acts of kindness are simply going out of your way to make someone elses day. They can be anywhere from paying for someones movie ticket in line behind you to mailing a random person a 20 dollar bill. Though they seem bizarre and unethical, random acts of kindness can virtually better a life. In addition, using your time to take part in charities or other volunteer services can have the same effect. Donating things you no longer need or money you can spare can have a huge impact in children by giving them a better life and an education. Though it is hard to break through the selfish shell of humanity, simple acts of generosity drastically increase the quality of lives of the people around you.

While changing someones life with your abundance of generosity is important, how you feel while you do it is also very substantial. By knowing the impact you are having on someones life, feeling good about yourself is inevitable. Taking a few hours out of your day to help someone can be very rewarding. Whether that be helping a blind person cross the street, lending someone a few bucks or helping an older person with their groceries. Another way to make you feel great while being

Performing the act of kindness of providing money for food to someone in need helped to build moral character for both parties involved. The person in need, perhaps has gained knowledge he or she is not alone and others do care about what happens to him or her. The person receiving the gift may reciprocate the act by searching for jobs or applying for social support. The person giving the gift has become responsible to help others; this act can lead to bigger acts in the community of aid to others. Many people in the community practicing altruism can be beneficial in teaching social responsibility to others. In such efforts to promote altruism limits exist in persuading others to become responsible in the plight.…

There seems to be an inexhaustible number of reasons that one person might go out of his way to assist another. One of the more interesting of these is to give to soothe one's conscience, or to avoid the guilt that comes with not offering help when you can. Ma Joad used this reason to feed the starving children at the first Hooverville they stayed at. She looked at those kids and tried to avoid giving them food so she could feed her family. Even Uncle Tom had a hard time eating his food with those hungry children looking on. Ma eventually soothed her conscience by giving the kids the dregs of the soup kettle, though she knew she should have given the entire helping to her family, as they had less than enough themselves.…

As people mention the virtue, generosity, they always conceive of an image of a wealthy philanthropist who donates his money to people in need. However, in my opinion, the concept of generosity exceeds the narrow connotation of giving to others, and not only can rich people become generous; rather, generosity comprises of empathy to share others’ feelings, magnanimous tolerance towards other people, and returning to them with kindness.…

The random act of kindness that I completed this week was buying an old man a coffee in front of me at Starbucks. He ordered a Grande Pike with room. I heard the order and said “I’ll get that miss” and without even hesitating handed over my card to pay for the drink. The older man look at me with a cracked smile and confused kind of look before muttering the words “you didn’t have to do that young man, but thank you” I replied with a smile on my face “no problem Sir”.…

Everyone has seen people standing on the street holding a sign, wearing a funny red hat, and asking for money. They are called Shriners, and giving them money is thought to be a sign of generosity. Generosity is a kind act that makes us feel virtuous, yet we probably do not practice this act enough. Even when we see someone giving money to these people; our perceived notion is that the donors are respectable, moral, and wholesome because they gave a monetary offering. Giving money does not show true generosity, it’s just one way of being generous, but there are many ways.…

In New Orleans, you can spot a homeless person at every corner. Some are overly dressed for the long cold nights. Others, can’t even afford any type of clothes. Many of these homeless people carry a piece of cardboard asking for money or food. Occasionally, someone will stop and give them money with the uncertainty that the money will be spent on drugs or alcohol. What people fail to realize is that one simple act of kindness can change a person's day.…

Before, I was all about myself, I knew what I needed and knew what to do to get what I needed. But since I have had this experience I have decided that giving is the life for me. I now see that I am not the only person in the world that has needs, and I am also not the only person in the world who struggles to meet said needs. And I believe that if I lead the rest of my life giving, I could inspire someone else to give, too. Luther was all it took to start the peasant revolt. That alone is enough proof that if one mind changes, several will follow after it. If we all become giving citizens maybe we can all find our inner…

being one of them, so if you are in no situation to give money, there are ample ways to show that you care with no cost to you. Donation is a huge part of aid organizations, admittedly a lot of times donation means giving money, but there are many different meanings. There are organizations such as Free Rice, partnered with World Food Programme, that give education and rice to impoverished communities worldwide at the expense that you take a few minutes out of your day to play a couple games at freerice.com. This is an educational website that I was introduced to in elementary school. We were allowed to play games on this site after we had finished our work in computer labs. Back then it was about seeing who could get the most rice, ten grains for every correct answer, none of us realized how much of an impact we were making. If each child of a second grade class can give a couple thousand grains of rice in just the five minutes of extra time they have after assignments, think of the difference one school can make if they set five minutes of each day for that purpose only. This would have saved Mariam and Laila a lot of suffering when they had to sell everything they owned after a fire destroyed their only income (Hosseini 304). It would also immensely aid the HEAL Africa Hospital by taking food off their ceaseless list of burdens, because the people they help are usually in no situation to pay for care, not until…

Peter Buffet makes an interesting point that money does not buy kindness or trust therefore kindness is paid in hugs, laughs, gestures, etc. Peter Buffet writes, “The kindnesses that allowed me to trust people and in the basic goodness of the world could not be measured in dollars; they were paid for, in hugs and ice-cream cones and help with homework” (Pg. 12). Money does not buy kindness because there is no sentimental feelings when money is being used. For example, creating huge charities and signing off a big check does not make them be kind because they are not showing any interest of the charity. Anyone signing a big check to a charity is generous however, it is the people that should be cared, talked to, and be kind making them feel…

Here is another interesting observation when studying generous people - they work hard and waste little resource. Their success is built on effort and perseverance. They do not take short cuts, because they know that success and happiness is working hard to get what you want. Generous people focus on others rather than themselves, and they think that helping others achieve success is a worthwhile endeavor, and feel genuinely happy for…

For some people they have the best life and get everything they need and want for themselves. For some people on the other hand they don't have it that way and get the short end of the stick. For the people you see and help It comes straight from the heart because they don't have it easy and from me to them I realize that by helping them just a little it could jumpstart them to a fresh life and show them we care. I realize that I have as much as I need and I always ask my parents for money and to go out places but some people don't even have homes or food to provide and eat. By helping out a needing hand it makes me realize that I don't need everything in the world and it should help other people realize to that by looking at the life you have if you're rich or wealthy to help someone in need is the right thing to do and what I like doing best.…

That is why they tell others about a courteous deed that they did. They do not want their generosity to go unnoticed. When someone is known for doing a good deed, their social status will typically rise. Unless, people realize that their generous act was actually an attempt to benefit themselves, and not the individual that received the "generosity". When people share an admirable deed that they did, it can come off as bragging if they do it all the time. Humans are extra generous when others are aware of their actions. (BERMAN, JONATHAN Z., et al) The dictionary definition of generosity is "readiness or liberality in giving". This means that the person is eager and always willing to assist others in need. It means that the person does not think twice about helping someone. It makes them feel content knowing that they made someone else's day a little bit better. An example of this would be the story of a little coffee shop in Winnipeg, Canada. One day, a man was getting a cup of coffee when the patron behind him decided to pay for his coffee. They were complete strangers. Then the next citizen in line paid for the other person's coffee. It continued on and on like that for the next 226 customers. Generosity is absolutely contagious. Contagion happens when an individual who has interacted with generous people in one group donates more in the next group. (Tsvetkova, Milena, and Michael W. Macy). That is what happened in Winnipeg; others witnessed the person pay for the man's coffee, and it made them want to be generous also. The generosity of giving and paying for someone else's coffee radiated throughout the day, and ended up affecting 226 people. Perhaps, the first customer paid for the man's coffee because others were aware of their…

    Definition Of Kindness

Human nature contains both good and bad elements. Kindness isn’t always the most common characteristic people experience from others. So when people are treated with kindness they are often surprised. When someone else gives an extra effort to be kind to someone else, the reaction is usually surprised, along with gratefulness and appreciation, or suspicion or offense. The reaction depends on a variety of factors including the relationship to whoever is being kind, the current circumstances, and the mood of the person. If someone is in a bad mood they’re more likely to respond negatively to kindness seeing it more as a result of them seeming incapable of doing something without assistance, which may or may not be true. When the motive of kindness…

It’s not so easy being grateful since it’s really hard to be happy with what you already have and realizing how lucky you are to have them. I honestly wasn’t grateful for anything, I thought I never had enough, I always wanted more. Till the day came that reality slapped me across the face and helped me open my eyes to something’s I thought I would never notice. I didn’t learn to be grateful all by myself, I had the help of an amazing friend that and I’m glad she came around because if it was for her, I’d still be the same old ignorant person I used to be.…
