There is another character in this story in the perspective of someone who is genetically modified, his name was Jerome. He was a swimming Olympic who always won silver. If I won …show more content…
silver I would be the happiest person alive but Jerome had different thoughts, He felt like he always deserved first because he was specified to be perfect, The modification went to his head and made him think he deserves the best and to be the best. This took a toll on him by giving him depression and a suicidal attitude towards life.I can connect to Jerome on feeling worthless and hurt and feeling like nothing could ever make anything better. I was able to get myself a better attitude but it was too late for Jerome. The only reason why I would ever use genetic modification on my child is to get rid of any passed down disease or maybe gender because of wanting my name passed down. I would feel wrong to change their athletic abilities or personality or even their eye color. My perspective of this is my parents are in an interracial marriage. That means my father is white and my mother is very dark brown and with that combination it makes me a mix of the two colors or a chance of me being one or the other color. If my parents decided to pick blue or green eyes for me and I turned out very dark brown, I would look very weird and kids would pick on me. Simple decisions can make a huge impact for a lifetime. I am trying to think realistically about what other people would treat the child with looking different because of a stupid decision on making their child's eye color their desired color.
If we allow something like this to continue to happen, we will soon have build up the reputation to discriminate people who were naturally conceived because they were not modified.
Just like what they did to Vincent. They made him feel like a piece of paper that could be bent or ripped apart with a simple touch .He felt the same way for the longest time until he took up astronomy and physics. He found a way to get rid of all the painful thoughts of him being worthless. He found happiness through love and a friendship with Jerome. Not everyone's story can be as happy as Vincent's in the end. Use genetic modification wisely and not overuse it.Think about the fact that you are changing someone's life by doing this and if you use it without careful thought, you can ruin someone's life and cause them to either let it go to their head or even let it become a discriminatory
trend.
