In the first chapter of book David Chandler’s book Voices from S-21, Terror and History in Pol Pot’s Secret Prison, it talked about how after two weeks of fighting Dk (Democratic Kampuchea) had fled with all of their followers. On January 8 two Vietnamese photographers were drawn to a building that on the gate it said: “Fortify the spirit of revolution…the people and the party.” After
walking inside of the building which they later found out was an abandoned high school. After taking all the pictures they can they informed the Vietnamese authorities of what they had found. The photographers and authorities found important documents from houses and can across a document that had been designated for the Bk era by the name of S-21. S-21 stands for Sala which means “hall” while 21 was the code number that was assigned to Santebal who which was a Khmer word which was combined with two words. The two words were Santisuk for security and nokorbal which was for police. Other than finding this they found other documents with micro confessions from s-21 that was microfilmed
In the movie First They Killed My Father, it showed a little girl named Loung Ung was with her family happy as can be until the Khmer Rouge came and ruined it. They told the Cambodians that they can come go in three days which was a lie. After three days they were stopped and the Khmer Rouge would check your bags and if you had anything to do with America they would kill you and your family. So Luong father lied and said that they were a part of the lower class even though they were apart of the upper class and the Khmer Rouge believed them.
