During the year of 1931, in Saratoga, Texas on September 12 a soon to be country music icon was born, George Glenn Jones. He landed a deal with Starday Records, Pappy Daily as his producer and manager. Which would be a partnership that would last for years. He also got married to Shirley Ann Corley in 1954 and had two sons. Their sons names were Jeffery and Brian.
After a he failed a few singles in 1955, George Jones had one that would make the charts “Why Baby Why”. Soon afterwards more hits followed “What am I Worth” and “You Gotta Be My Baby”. In the year of 1956 he began singing at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1959, George Jones had his first #1 hit “White Lighting”. His name was getting out and his songs were begging to be hits.
In the early 1960s, George Jones took his place as one of the top crooners in country music. He sang many songs of heartbreak during this time, by showing his lighter side. In 1962, he recorded one of his signature songs, “She Thinks I Still Care”, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 1966, George Jones tried to start a country music theme park in his hometown in Vidor, Texas. Through all this he met and fell in love with a fellow country star Tammy Wynette.
