George released his first real book Down and Out in Paris and London in 1933.
In 1936 George went to Spain where he joined one of the groups fighting against General Francisco Franco in the Spanish Civil War. Orwell was badly injured after getting shot in the throat and arm in Spain (Biography). In 1938 George was diagnosed with tuberculosis, George spent a lot at the Preston Hall Sanatorium trying to recover. George had to deal with Tuberculosis for the rest of his life because there were no treatments for his disease at this time period. In 1949 George wrote 1984 which was one of his most popular
novels.
George was married to his wife Eileen O'Shaughnessy until she died in 1945. George and Eileen had an open marriage so George was with other people besides Eileen. In 1944 George and Eileen adopted a son who they named Richard Horatio Blair. Richard was raised by George's sister Avril after Eileen's death. Later in his life George proposed to editor Sonia Brownell and they got married in 1950. George died on January 21, 1950 in London.
I think if George wanted to share wisdom with us today he would tell us that we need to express our opinions even if they are offensive and people do not agree with them. George would want us to know that it takes time to be a great writer and even if you are successful at first with writing you need to kept trying if it is your dream. I also think George would also tells us that even if people don't like your books or what you write to never give up because one day they could become very popular or even best sellers.
