Gideon's Journey In The Book Of Judges
Gideon's Journey As many Christians may know, Gideon is a major character in the book of Judges. He was the youngest son of Joash who lived in Ophrah, just west of the Jordan River. Gideon was chosen by God to rescue Israel from the Midianites. Even though Israel stopped worshipping God after he died, he is a hero of Israel because he helped focus Israel's eyes on God when he was alive and he had strong faith in God. God gave Israel to the Midianites because they were not focusing their eyes on Him. They were under the Midianites' rule for seven years before they were rescued by Gideon. The Israelites built shelters and homes in mountains because their fear of the Midianites was great. They would bombard their crops and invade their fields in large numbers. Barely getting by, the people of Israel were deathly afraid of what the Midinaites would do next. An angel of God was sent down to go and tell Gideon how he could help Israel. The angel told Gideon that the Lord was with him, but Gideon didn't take that very well. He asked the angel why then hasn't God been with Israel when the Midianites took over them. And the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?". And …show more content…
If there is dew on the fleece alone, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said." I chose this group of verses to be the summary of Gideon's life because he was known for the golden fleece. He had faith in God, but he wanted to make sure it was real. Obviously, God responded and Gideon went on with what he was asked of him. He was able to defeat the Midianites and after that he was a hero. As a result, the focus of Israel's eyes were back on

King Saul was chosen to demonstrate God’s power through his transformation. In Saul’s case it is not how you begin but how you finish. Saul was actually secretly anointed the first king of all of the tribes in Israel being he was chosen by the public population. Saul started off with a fresh start as king; he came from a well-to-do family, was tall, dark, handsome, and it was told there was no man taller than he. But, his peaceful start did not last long. During his reign he had a stand-off with the Philistines in the valley of Elah, unauthorized sacrificial offering, failed to eliminate all of the Amalekites and their livestock as commanded by God, and lied to God as well. The break between Saul and God is arguably one of the saddest occurrences in Scripture. Saul’s final act of disobedience included him falling on to his sword, and taking his own life.…

The hero that I most identify with in Hinson’s Courageous Faith, is Gideon.1 I have previously discussed my Army career where I served as a senior leader. I held various leadership positions for 28 of my 31 years of service. Gideon was not a leader, in fact, he was a frightened farmer who is hiding in a pit trying to remove the wheat from the chaff. 2 I am the opposite of Gideon when it comes to leadership. The Lord had to teach Gideon how to lead, or shall I say Gideon had to submit to the Lord so he could be a leader-sheep, as God wanted him to. I, on the other hand, have submitted to God for the ability to be a follower-sheep.…

In the world of the American Justice system, Gideon's name will always stand for the principle that the poor are just as entitled to counsel as those who can afford it. To this day, Gideon's name and the "trumpet" that he blew have rung true to the words "fair trial". He tore down the wall of Betts vs. Brady and the correlation between the Bill of Rights and the 14th Amendment. Gideon's triumph over our justice system shows that there are still flaws in our judicial structure and there are mountains still to be conquered.…

When the Joads reach their destination where they can finally work to have food and a place to live, there is a connection to the Israelites because when the Joads got there, things were slow and they got into some trouble and they didn't find much work but towards the end they started to adapt and were able to find a place to live and a steady job. And in the bible the Israelites get punished for forty days and then finally Jesus gave them the land. The character of Gideon played by Henry Fonda definitely played an important role in developing the theme of the movie. The underlying message to the viewers was that no matter whom you are and how small you think you are, you can change a nation for the better. Gideon is portrayed to be a frail, small, average man who had a strong determination that changed the nation for the better. He was a man looking for justice and nothing more and that determination of him caused the country to change in some monumental ways.…

Although it is still open for debate, there are suggestions that chaplaincy, as a function in the military, can be traced in the Old Testament. Consider the battle of the Israelites and the Amalekites. The children of Israel experienced victory as long Moses held his hands up in Prayer to God. Another example that is discussed in the book deals with the Priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant in some of the battles the Israelites were engaged in. Gideon is also looked at as playing the roles of a prophet, priest, and general.…

Gideon did a horrible job of defending himself in court. He was found guilty of breaking and entering and petty larceny, which was a felony. Gideon was sentenced to five years in Florida State prison mostly due to his prior past record. The while he was in prison, Gideon began to study up on the law and he soon came to believe that his sixth amendment rights had been violated. This led Gideon to file a petition for Habeas Corpus with the supreme court in Florida. His petition stated that he had been imprisoned illegally. After the Supreme Court of Florida rejected his petition, he hand wrote a petition for a writ of certiorari to the Supreme Court of the United…

The angels of Heaven battled the rebel angels for several days, but the conflict was a draw. Then God the Father sends his Son to quell the rebellion. The Son casts Satan and the angels out of Heaven with only "half his strength. . .but check'd / His Thunder in mid Volley." Whereas Christ could have used all of His strength, he chooses "Not to destroy, but root them out of Heav'n." The hero will not utterly crush the weak like the rebel angels were, but will use only enough strength to accomplish the task. In addition to this, Christ is sent to the earth to judge Adam and Eve. Either man must die, or justice must. The Son of God states, "I shall temper so / Justice with…

He promises to make him into a great nation (Israel) and would bless him, making his name great, as he would be a blessing. Those who bless him would be blessed, and those who curse him, shall be cursed. Abram, without a sign of hesitation, leaves as God has commanded. Along with him, he brings his wife, nephew, their possessions, and their people from Haran.
