So far I have read a fourth of the book. The book is very good with its uses of outstanding descriptions of the setting and the excitement of adventure. So far the book has been a page turner. The book uses literary techniques such as flashback. The book is manly about a young man that is fresh out of college and gives everything he has to charity then hits hicks all the way to Alaska wanting to go in the woods and live off the wild. But 6 months latter his decomposing body is found by hunters. This is where the book begins. It has been a big flashback about how Alex left Atlanta and the things he went through to make it to Alaska.
This use of flashback can be really confusing to the reader there where some times that you have to read a chapter 2 times to understand that it is a flashback. The reason that they use flashback is because they found a diary that Alex wrote over the whole time. But they have to use flashbacks because Alex died so there is know why he can sit down and tell what happened to him. In a way flashbacks can be bad because in this case it is someone else telling Alex’s stories from his diary and often people will dramatize the story. But over all I really like the book and I am excited to see where Jon will take it next.
