What is meant by the term "Professional Behaviors"? “Professional Behaviors” are a sub-classification of human behaviors exhibited in both academic and vocational settings, in which they enable one to meet institutional or organizational expectations outlined by supervisors, instructors, and directors. Also, these behaviors formulate one’s competence in a profession. As well, these behaviors are expected by those receiving services.
2. Give 5 descriptive examples of how an OT displays professional behaviors.
One example of how an OT (occupational therapist) displays professional behaviors is by expressing openness to a different perspective. For example, a PT (physical therapist) shares a unique perspective during a multi-disciplinary care plan meeting in a skilled-nursing facility. As a result, the OT could develop new ideas into treating a particular client based on the PT’s perspective.

For example, if a client with a hip replacement at a skilled-nursing facility has a very positive attitude about their recovery during their treatment session, the student should conduct themselves in a positive manner when helping the client achieve their goals. In addition, if the student is on their lunch break during a day at fieldwork, the student is expected to positively represent themselves, their program, and their university. If the student interacts with an employee who graduated from the same university, but the employee makes negative remarks about a faculty member, the student could ask the employee to change the topic of discussion or the student could not contribute to the conversation, only to listen.
