Vinegar is a very potent acid so you’ll need a little salt to dilute it. Start by making a cleansing solution. This is to get rid of all the dirt and debris floating around. To get rid of the residue left by all the scummy water that has been in the vase ever since you started using it, pour in some hot water and let it sit there for a good five minutes. Drain it and then apply the salt and vinegar past to the all the remaining residue. This will scrub the residue right off the glass surface. Let the paste sit there for a good ten minutes before you start wiping the surface clean to make sure you get every drop of dirt and residue left.

If you have glass vases that you simply cannot fit your hand or the cleaning sponge inside, here is a quick solution to solve the problem. Just fill it up with hot water and then drop a tablet or two of Alka Seltzer. The tablets will do all the dirty work for you, dissolving all the dirt and residue. All you have to do is flush the water out and rinse it after fifteen minutes or so.
In case you don’t have Alka Seltzer lying around you can substitute this with a homemade mixture. Simply fill your vase with lukewarm water, add in a full tablespoon of baking soda (this is for an average vase so add more if your vase is larger) and then pour in some white vinegar. It will start to fizzle and then dissolve all of the dirt and residue that’s been building up inside your vase. After a few minutes simply flush and rinse to get the smell of vinegar
