global citizen
Who is the global citizen? Many ideas came to my mind, such as a person who knows many languages; those who travel a lot; or people who are interested in different cultures. Lastly, I decided that global citizen is the person who cares about humanity’s well-being and maintenance of nature.
Every morning I turn on Life News and see what is going on in the world. Once a week I open the newspaper and read what happened during the week. Every day we witness the disasters and catastrophes around the globe. Wars, protests, children death, poverty, destroying ecosystem… All these things make me think of why the humankind is behaving that way, what can be done to eliminate or reduce the violence and the horrible cases, what is the purpose we are living for, what I can do for the society, for the world. In order to change the world for the better we must start changing ourselves. Sure it is said by many people, but they just tell this and do not follow their words. Actions speak louder than words, so we must not just talk or write about it, but take actions. The simplest way to start acting is from home: use the utilities properly, clean up your house and surrounding. Furthermore, it is crucial to take care of environment, keep it clean. Besides, people must help each other, together we can make world better, because we are the world and each of us can be considered as a global citizen if contribute to welfare of people.
The characteristics of a global citizen include respect of people of every nation, race, religion and gender, courage to take actions, responsibility, intelligence, kindness and smart actions. Global citizen is a person who never ever discriminates and bears up others, a person who doesn’t give up helping humanity, a person who inspires others to follow him/her, a person who gives the faith for better days to hopeless people and a person who does his/her best to complete the job.

With the developed information technology, the world has become smaller and smaller as a whole. However, a gap between poor and rich is growing in the last decades (Eikenberry, 2006, p.587). The philanthropy, which means voluntary contribution to welfare, also has received more attention in the mainstream media. Philanthropy from a few privileged people in richer countries can make a difference to the poorer people and countries. Just as Margaret Mead (cited in Leder, 2005, p.1) said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can changed the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has”. Philanthropy which helps others is also a similar attitude to global citizenship. Global citizenship means recognizing the common humanity and establishment of the sense of agency and responsibility which is able and willing to engage the world thoughtfully, helpfully and hopefully (Kornelson, 2011, p.92). This essay will discuss global citizenship in three aspects: environment, education and diversity, and links them with the common responsibility. Then this essay will also analyses McDonald’s as an instance to explain its global citizenship.…

The world over the years as a whole has grown immensely. Together we have experienced, fixed and struggled through many worldwide issues. During all of these ups and downs we have been pulled closer together as less of individual nations and more of a global group, some examples of this can be seen in the way we have improved with racism and prejudice. These issues were major problems that the world faced; they were responsible for damaging thousands of lives and have ruined many more. People began to change their views in order to become more positive and less pessimistic, this was an issue raised and handled not as a group or a nation but as a whole. When it comes to becoming a global citizen, I think that we are already a quarter of the way there but that we will never make the 100%. People are bound to where they are born and raised for many reasons mainly because of culture and conformability.…

Nowadays I often meet the term "Global Citizen" in newspapers, magazines and television, but who exactly is a global citizen? I see a Global Citizen as someone who has a sense of their own role as a world citizen, respects and values diversity and other cultures, takes responsibility for their actions, has a desire to make this world better. More than 2,400 years ago the philosopher Socrates claimed: “I am not an Athenian or a Greek, but a citizen of the world.” And I believe that he was absolutely right. It’s not important for Global Citizen what your nation is or your social status, he is interested in what kind of person you are.…
