For my primary research, I think that an excellent topic would be genetic engineering and its implications on the food industry as well as possible health problems in people that eat genetically engineered foods. This is a topic of increasing controversy in recent years, as more research is showing that genetically modified crops cause organ system failures and certain cancers in mice that are fed them over the course of generations. Many people are beginning to believe that the genetically modified crops that have been in our supermarkets and fed to livestock for years could be causing great health problems.
I believe that this topic does not receive enough attention by the public, as it is of great importance to every person’s health and well being. This topic also has possible environmental impact, as many genetically modified species of farm-raised animals are known to kill off any other species when introduced into the wild. I am biology major and this type of research is fascinating to me, so I think this topic is appropriate for me to choose. Research should not be particularly for this topic, as I will already know where to start and there is some academic research that I have already seen.
Secondary Research Choice
For my secondary research topic, I would like to look into the fast food industries use of toxic chemicals in their food. I think this is a topic that does not receive nearly enough attention and most people do not know what they are actually eating when they go to a fast food restaurant. Fast food is a booming industry in the United States as much now as it has ever been, and obesity is a growing problem. These two trends are clearly linked, and now is an opportune time to do research like this.
I feel that I am particularly suited to do this type of research as well, because this is a subject that has long caught my attention and I already know where to start. Fast food is something that
